  • If we remember you from over a month ago, its bad

(BG) If yoiu are in the UK, some of this story will clue you in to where I work, will try and fudge it a bit). Basically I work for a mobile phone network and on pre-pay phones we will give you free credit when you top up

On Sunday, I was at work in our shop with my boss, and a customer comes in saying that her free credit had not been added. Look on computer at customer account and find that the last time she applied a top-up to her account was 6 July. She then decided that as it was my boss who sold it to her (sometime in late July/early August) that he would remember the transaction, forgetting the fact that we can serve literally HUNDREDS of customers per day.

As said in the thread title, unless you are a really cool person/celebrity, you DON'T want to be remembered

Yup. My first job had a binder in the back room with names, descriptions and encounter dates of particularly bad SCs. We had a three-strikes rule and enforced it (independent biz that took care of the employees).

My current circle of hell doesn't have anything like that, but there's a contingent that everyone recognizes and no one wants to deal with.

Unless it's a really small business, being remembered is usually NOT a good thing...

              Nice

I have been to business/people who I have not seen for years only to have them remember me as in my name, what I did as a living, and even what I last shopped for.

I asked many of them why they remember me, what had I done so wrong that they remember me.

And the main reason was that 'I was so happy and fun to talk to'. That I did not make crazy demands, and were willing to pay extra if I asked for something special.

It is crazy, just being nice makes one memorable!

Therefore there is simply NO excuse for you not to remember this shining example of humanity...

That's like the geniuses that come up to the paint desk and ask "Hey, Bob (since I have a name tag he obviously knows me), do you remember which paint you mixed for me last month?" I have NO IDEA who you are, let alone some paint I mixed a month ago. Dumbass.

It always surprises me when someone does remember me. I feel like, do I really come in here that often?

I have a decent-sized 'fan club' at the store, and I'm fine with them knowing my name. Some of them knew me before I started changing up my nametags, they know why I'm doing it and don't use my real name (or use a nickname that doesn't give it away) if they sense an SC is lurking.

TBL, I hate name-dropping. Anyone I don't recognize at all who starts trying to be buddy-buddy I'm immediately suspicious of, especially on SCO as with the assistant card I can do practically anything except for cash machine functions (and anyone who's paying attention when I do use the card knows this).

My local hardware store does keep track of that.

So does the Orange Apron store, but you still have to tell them your name so they can look you up. As special as I think I am, I don't think they are just gonna remember be and my paint color on sight. As busy as that place is, I doubt they would remember tomorrow what I got today off the top of their head.
