  • Two SC's at the same time

Tonight I was working the drive through for a very popular taco chain when I had the misfortune of encountering two SC's at the same time. As anyone who's worked a drive through knows, you sometimes have to be able to carry three conversations at once (one with the people in the window, one with the people at the speaker, and one with your coworkers). I found myself in that position tonight.

I wound up forgetting the drinks for the people at the window, and when I tried to ask what their drinks were, they got pissy with me, stating that it wasn't that f***ing hard to remember their drinks. But they tell me, complaining the whole time that I was incompetent. To be honest, they wouldn't even have been memorable if it wasn't for the reaction they set off.

It's also worth noting that we had a new employee tonight bagging food, and it was my job to supervise him to make sure all the food was sent out the window right.

So while I'm dealing with all this, I have a woman in my ear rattling off her order, which I'm trying my best to ring up. I get their drinks out and the next order bagged, and ask the woman at the speaker if I have her order rang up correctly on the screen.

    SC: No. *offers nothing further*
Me: Ok, well, what's wrong with it?
SC: Look, there's no reason for you to get an attitude with me. It's not my fault you got it wrong.
    Me: ???
SC: Let me speak to a manager.

At which point my manager takes over correcting her order, but manages to get it wrong again, mostly because the woman is too busy complaining about me to actually tell us what's wrong with the order. Manager tells her to pull forward and we'll correct it at the window.

She gets to the window and asks me to read it back to her, so I do.

    SC: You're still missing *item*.
Me: I apologize, ma'am. If I add that to your ticket, this is what we have. *reads back whole order again.* Is that correct?
SC: Yeah. Now get the manager over here.

At which point I say yes ma'am, call my manager over, and step away from the window to take orders, but I can still hear the conversation they have.

SC: You're employee got an attitude with me after she messed up my order, I expect to know how you'll address this.
Man.: Ma'am, I had a headset on at the time, and all she did was ask you to clarify your order for her.
SC: NO, that's NOT all she did! She got an attitude with me for no reason, now how are you going to address this?!?
Man.: Ma'am, I apologize if that's how you feel, however like I said I had a headset on, and she simply asked you for clarification. I can't discipline her for that. Now, is your order correct?
SC: Well, I'm going to call *name of old manager* tomorrow, if you won't address this, I know he will!
Man.: Ma'am, *name of old manager* is no longer in charge of this store, however, *name of new manager* will be here tomorrow if you would like to call her.
SC: I will! So give me that employees name!
Man: Of course. Her name is Safire, and mine is Manager, and here's the number you can call.
SC: Let me just pay for my food and go.
Man.: Of course. *manager cashes her out and gives her her food.*
SC: You'll be hearing from me!!! *leaves*

I was almost in tears at this point, until the manager just looks at me and goes "f*** people, am I right?" and goes back to work.

No idea how the store manager is going to handle this, but honestly, who cares?

If the store manager has two brain cells to rub together, nothing at all will happen.

      What mrj said...

What a horse's ass - I was waiting for the "compensate me!" whine to be uttered. But no doubt her complaint to the manager will include that. And if your manager has any sense scammer will get shut down hard and fast.

I'd bet if asked for clarification of the "attitude" she would just sputter and go "well....you know...she was, like, rude!"

Oh I'm sure she'll be getting a free meal in the near future lol. The only reason I'm even worried is that I'm new to this store, so the manager doesn't really know me and I don't need her thinking I would get an attitude with the customers. At least the shift manager that was there is cool and has the employees backs with people like this. She left a note for the store manager listing all the people who had headsets on at the time who would vouch for me.

I will never understand why people think it's a good plan to be pissy with people who handle their food.

              Jeez. How ridiculous.

This is why, should I ever be fortunate enough to have children, they will work at least some significant amount of time in the service industry. Everyone should. You don't treat people like this once you have done so. If you are the type of SC who claims "I've worked in *blank* industry before, and let me tell you..." these were the shitheads who only did it for a few months one summer and know absolutely nothing about you, your current situation, or the SOP of your store, and certainly don't remember much about their stint.

I'm sorry this happened to you. People like that can just eat a whole bag of pickled dicks.

I was thinking the same thing. I've experienced my handful of rude drive-thru employees (not to say that OP was being rude though, the SC just sounds oversensitive) and even in those cases I still try to stay as polite as possible. I always give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that maybe the customer before me was rude or something.

At least your shift manager not only witnessed everything but also took steps to ensure that you wouldn't get in any sort of trouble. It's always nice to have superiors who have your back.

This makes me furious for you. What a terrible person she is. I hope someone treats her as badly as she treated you. You did nothing to deserve that at all. I'm sure your manager on duty knew that, especially if she said "f*** people." I'm sure you won't get into any kind of trouble. There is just no pleasing some people.

What a power tripping piece of shit. Her life is so pathetic that she's got to get someone disiplined in order to give her some sense of self worth. I hope karma comes down on this bitch hard.

A former co-worker had a set line for these pieces of trash. He'd show a picture of his son and say "this is the person you are starving, this is the throat you are cutting". Give these people a reality check about the affect that this complaint could actually have.

Two SC's at the same time...I was kind of hoping that the laws of physics would be involved and they'd cancel each other out. Sorry to you had to deal with that.
