We don't have plenty of room behind our shopping center as it is. The way it's laid out, we have a path behind the store for the tractor trailers to move to reach our dock doors when we have deliveries. There i room for a truck to move past when one is parked at either of our 2 dock doors, which are not straight out behind the store, but at a 90 degree left angle. Outside dock has a permanent trailer there for salvage storage between truck visit (as our back room doesn't have enough room to keep all the pallets/milk crates/reclaim and bales that we move out daily.) Inside dock is the one that is used for our deliveries to be unloaded into our backroom space.

Our next door neighbor to the right of us is a Kinship Dollar store, which gets a delivery on Monday mornings. Sometimes their truck i back there for a few hours in the morning while being unloaded and this can cause issues w/me trying to get my deliveries in and properly checked in in a timely manner.

How can this cause a problem? It can when the driver jacknife his rig so that the cab i pointed at a right angle toward our dock, therefor blocking the entire path.

This causes problems for some of the trucks that come to my dock. If it's a smaller trailer, they can finagle their way in, but if it's a 53 footer, forget it.

My Coke delivery managed to wiggle its way in, but the driver (not my regular one, as my little Bullfrog was on vacay) the driver had a 48 foot trailer to work with.

My Budweiser truck pulled in to the other side of the building and offloaded and brought those pallet up the ramp and in through the door by my desk, as that driver didn't want to wait behind both Coke and the Miller beer truck that had pulled up behind him. Those two truck have smaller, boxy style trailers to work with as a general rule.

Then we had a Litter Box truck come in (our perishable delivery) and he's got a 53 footer. He doesn't have the room, so he has to wait for Kinship Dollar' truck to get done so he can have space to reach the dock.

I have coworkers waiting to get this truck unloaded so they can start filling holes in their departments. Meanwhile, I get my beer deliveries finished and the drivers have left to delivery to their next stops.

Then the grocery truck came (our dry grocery delivery) and that driver found himself waiting behind the perishable truck. I call out over my radio (we now have these that we wear now to communicate between each other) to Sheldon that our trucks cannot get to the dock b/c of the Kinship Dollar truck being parked a it is.

Sheldon and Grasshopper both are back there in a flash and not happy about the situation. Perishable driver is back inside, explaining that he' had to let the DC know why he's being delayed (our drivers have to check in w/dispatch back at the DC for everything and account for every moment they are on the road w/company vehicles.)

Sheldon ha an idea and jump out of the open dock door and walk over to the Kinship Dollar truck for a word w/the driver. He came back, disgusted b/c he was told it'd be at least another hour before they'd be finished.

This is NOT going to be acceptable, as we have customers asking for items that are on these trucks. So, after a minute or two outside on the landing (aka the back verandah) between Sheldon, Grasshopper, perishable driver and myself (and smoking of peace pipes) Grasshopper goes back inside and leaves the backroom area, saying he's going to reach out to Kinship Dollar Corporate office and let them know what's going on.

While this was going on, our driver went back to his truck and called from his phone as well.

Ten minutes later, we're getting word that the Kinship Dollar driver is getting ready to drop his trailer and move his cab (which he should have done to begin with) and make room for our trucks to get to our dock.

According to Grasshopper when he returned, it turned out the Regional Director was in the store next door and got the call from Corporate on his cell phone advising him of the matter. He went and found the store manager, who then told the driver he'd have to drop the trailer and move his cab out of the way.

A few minutes later, our perishable truck was able to get to the dock and get unloaded.

    And the peasants rejoice. :bouce:

Hope we don't have to have a repeat tomorrow of what we went through this past Monday. I'm keeping fingers crossed that our neighbors will be a touch more neighborly in the future.

But if not, I have a manager with a set of brass balls who WILL get that truck moved.

That's good, as blocking the entire area is simply unacceptable. I see it all the time around work when I have to go behind the shopping centers looking at things...
