  • Rough week

So, Minion ended up with Hand, Foot, and Mouth. He got it from a playmate who got it from daycare. I thought he just had a diaper rash since it cleared up with some cream. Then we went to the pediatrician when the rash reappeared a couple days ago, but we must have gone too early. Even with the beginnings of a rash, confirmed exposure, no appetite, and a fever, we walked out with a diagnosis of "not HFMD, but might be in the same family of viruses" some heavy duty diaper cream for the rash, and instructions to keep him hydrated.

As an aside, I've decided I don't like this particular doc. He was the one who I felt blew me off when Minion was having pooping issues. After an ultrasound came back normal and nothing else was done, I was on the verge of requesting an MRI on my 1-month old before a friend suggested a pediatric chiropractor.

Well, the rash spread. It's definitely HFMD, and my poor little guy is miserable. And there's nothing we can do but let it run its course. The timing really, really sucks as this is his first Halloween and we probably won't get to do trick-or-treating, even if we were just going to go around the neighborhood anyway. At least it should be cleared up by his birthday next week. I hope.

Yikes. Fortunately for me, Little Ara was a healthy kid for her first year (not even a cold), but I'm pretty sure she's starting to make up for it, what with all the hospital visits in the last couple of weeks...

I hope Minion feels better soon! Maybe get him a small thing of tootsie rolls or other soft candy since he's missing out on Halloween?

Ugh, hope Minion feels better soon! We've been lucky, our 2.75 year old got HFMD a while ago. But since they'd already had a confirmed case at daycare, they were super vigilant and caught Sunshine's very early on. A quick confirmation from the doctor (and I think some antibiotics?) and it cleared up over the weekend.

Right now we're still trying to recover from a rough 5 weeks. Hubby and I were home with sick kids 3 out of 5 weeks recently. First Sweet Potato (8 months at the time) got salmonella. Due to that and the strong antibiotics, he was home for 2 weeks with diarrhea. He got better and spend a week back at daycare. Then he got a cold and fever. And ear infections. And the 2 year old caught the salmonella which meant another week home with them. Now Sweet Potato still has an ear infection but shows no symptoms, so he's on stronger antibiotics than usual and we're waiting for the "he had diarrhea, come and pick him up" call.

Also, after having 2 little ones sick with salmonella, I'm way to familiar with a very nice lady at the health department. Because this sort of thing has to be reported to them in case its contaminated food, water, or daycare. We still don't know where the infant caught it from.
