  • to check out or not to check out

Usually I like it when people just leave, but after this Guy, I'm not so sure.

Guy checks in with his GF. Later, the GF asks to extend their stay. No problem, right? It's been done before! So then the GF keeps extending their stay. Finally the tourists have gone so we have plenty of rooms.
Then Guy calls and says he's left, so why is his card still being charged? We explain that his GF is extending their stay? Guy says "oh." Guy promises to talk to her.
Guy talks with GF, and she disappears! Now Guy is complaining because his GF won't answer his calls, and he wants his money refunded! Jellyfish Manager decides customer is right. Even though I don't think so.

Guest walks up and starts pelting me with questions, one after the other. Just when he does, a line forms. Instead of waiting for Mr. Questions to finish, the rest of the line pushes him aside to turn in their keys. Seriously? That's f*ckin rude. Leave those keys in your room. We'll figure it out. No need to turn them in.

And last but not least this bozo who rates 100 on the creepo meter.

Bozo: Can I take the shuttle later? At 8?

Me: Sure, the shuttle runs all day

B: *suddenly angry* Are you surrre? Because yesterday it BROKE and I had to take a taxi!!!!

Me: Yes I'm sure. It's working fine now.

B: Are you really surrrre??? *glaring*

    Me: Yes

Then come sthe creepy part. He leaves but every so often he passes by my desk and gives me a wide eyed glare, even when I'm helping someone else.

    Me: *helping someone else*

    B: *passes by*
    \ ..../
    O__O

    Me: .....

    B: *passes by again*
    \ ..../
    O__O

    Me: ....okkkk

He keeps doing it until 8 comes. I can still feel him blaming me with his evil stare.

In a rare event, I might have to defend the manager.

The credit card companies are not so lenient with how they handle charge-backs and actually attach some nice fees against the merchant when a charge-back occurs. This looks to be a potential charge back which the hotel will not be able to defend against as he did not actually extend the stay. Were you guys scammed? Quite possibly. And they know the system enough to actually set you guys up for failure.

I'll take this as a cautionary tale and make sure the correct person is extending their stay. Problem is it's usually called down.

Probably need to add a couple fields to the reg card/form that the guest with the card signs before they get their keys. I'd guess 2 lists of names: one for people who are registered to the room and can be issued keys, but NOTHING else, one for people who are registered and can be issued keys, and who the card holder authorizes to extend the stay/otherwise bill stuff to the room.

GF on list 1: front desk tells her that she needs to get the primary guest to extend the stay.

GF on list 2: primary guest has signed a form authorizing GF to extend the stay and bill it to the card.

I agree, Guest #1 should have NOT gotten a refund - he needs to take this up with GF. And if he and GF weren't there then why was the extension granted in the first place?

We have a lot of couples staying before together for a romantic rendezvous, and they usually do extend their stay, not wanting to go back to real life. Usually just one of them come down, the other too lazy or *ahem* tired. When they want to, the protocol is this:

Step 1: check availability. In the case of this couple, check!
Step two: check funds on card on file. Cards good!
              Step three: redo keys. Done!

This happened so many time that we didn't think anything of it, only once that I can remember the couple has disputed charges. For all we know they both could be scamming us, we just have says so for the Guy. And if he was telling the truth that his GF just left him, then he still has to pay becuase as primary cardholder, he's in charge for all guests in that room, whether hey make noise or they scam him/us . My manager gave me a funny look when he heard about them, I think he's trying to find some way to pin this on me. Sigh.

I'm betting any account of money I currently possess that this is the real reason. Or the "girlfriend" was actually a hooker using his card and that room for her business activities.
