He was one of my favorite actors. It is a crime that he never won the Oscar. He should have been given a Lifetime Achievement Award.

At least Doctor Who brought him to the attention of young people who never saw The Elephant Man or Alien. He was the best part of The Proposition, hands down.

          Oh, the Elephant Man.

I sobbed aloud when he cried out 'I am not an animal!... I am a human being.'

I remember him most as Ollivander in the Harry Potter series ... R.I.P.

I mentioned this to my Mom last night.

              J2K: "So John Hurt died."
              Mom: "What? From Home Alone?"
              J2K: "...What?"

I briefly misunderstood that and assumed that John Hurt had played the old man with the snow shovel who rescued Kevin at the end of the movie, until I remembered.

J2K: "No, the Dad in Home Alone was played by John Heard. I'm talking about John Hurt."
              Mom: "Oh! The Elephant Man."
              J2K: "Right."

              RIP War Doctor

His Winston Smith was the best of all the 1984 adaptions (aptly shot in 1984).
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!
