  • Don't think I'll be eating sushi anymore...

    Because of this article...

Good thing I wasn't much of a sushi fan anyway...

I don't eat raw fish. Period. Now I've got another reason not to!

Lots of common foods have risks. I'll continue to eat sushi and not worry more than I worry when I eat any prepared food.

From what I've heard, there's "sushi grade" fish which has been inspected and found to be free from parasites, and therefore suitable for serving raw. Naturally, it's more expensive than ordinary fish (worms would have been harmless and undetectable in cooked fish). Sounds like someone "cheaped out" and used ordinary fish for sushi.

Never eat sashimi prepared by a Gajim - especially fugu.

At my old job someone was looking for sushi fixings, and upon hearing they were trying their hand at it I strongly suggested buying their fish at a local Japanese fish market specializing in sushi. Not cheap, but the shop knows what they're doing.

D (the asswad AM) overheard and basically called me a liar, saying that "any fish will work"--complete with a plug for our seafood case which could be of questionable quality to begin with.

Well sushi is a case of even if you're not making it yourself, you have to be careful. You are dealing with raw or pickled fix after all. (yes, I said pickled. Sushi is not defined by the raw fish, it's defined by the rice)

For example, I will not eat sushi where I live, but that's mainly because the nearest ocean is several hundred miles away so fresh saltwater fish is as best ridiculously expensive and still possibly questionable.
