  • Register Price

We are the customers in this story. We were not sucky and we did opt for the refund. So we found they had the wine I like for sale at 10.42. It was an end cap and the only thing under the sale price. After we purchased the wine, my wife noticed they charged us 12.12 for the wine right after we left the register. We of course went to customer service and they told us they can't change the price because of ABC rules. We live in Virginia, any one know if that is true? It seems they didn't want to even fix the sign. They are over charging by 1.70 to anyone that doesn't check their receipt.

Looks like they're angling to get into trouble with at least two sets of laws. In the U.S. it is illegal to advertise something at one price (signage on the endcap) and sell it at a higher price. Doesn't matter what it is.

I seriously doubt ABC rules or laws prohibit correcting the prices charged for reasons such as this...And, if they do, the laws Kittish mentioned supercede them anyway (Fed law *always* beats state/muni law; ABC is the latter). Could just be that the worker was misinformed, but still...

      - If the wine is *supposed* to be $10.42, they need to fix the price in their system. No good reason not to.

      - If it's *supposed* to be $12.12, that's false advertising.

When it comes to Alcohol and Tobacco, whatever government agency regulates pricing gets perturbed when someone does a price modify on one of those products and I don't think registers are able to modify the prices anymore.

HOWEVER, you were in the right, the price was listed and you should have been entitled to the difference back. Walmart needs to get in their system and fix the price. And it was an easy fix to take care of you, when I had that happen at the dollar store, I would just price modify something else to cover the difference. If the alcohol was all you were buying, they should have put the price difference on a gift card for you

My wife knows one of the assistant mangers at that store. They are looking into it. But on good note, I did find the same wine at Total Wine for $8.99. So all is good
