  • Anyone have a bulldozer I can borrow?

I recently found out from my husband that there's a leak under our house. To make things really fun our house is on a concrete slab. Needless to say this isn't going to be a cheap repair. We also need a new roof and foundation work.

The annoying thing is before the leak we were finally starting to get ahead. Now we have to scrounge up at least $5000 to get everything re-piped. It wouldn't be so bad if the plumber would accept payments but the company wants half as a deposit and they'll take payments on the second half.

To top everything off, hubby's health isn't the greatest. He has trouble remembering things that happened days or even hours ago. That's along with the bipolar disorder and the diabetes. His liver is acting up too. The health issues worry me more than the house.

And that is why I refuse to ever own a house on a slab.

Prayers for Hubs, and the house.

,Thank you. Hubby was adopted by his grandparents and they got that house after his grandpa came back from WW2. He's lived in that house since he was born. He's half willing to sell it and move but leaving somewhere you've been for that long isn't easy.

not to mention that you'd need to disclose the need for a new roof, foundation work and the leak, and that'd knock quite a bit off the price (probably more than it would cost to fix it, actually)

your hubby's symptoms sound like they could be dementia to me- I'd suggest asking a doctor about it, anyway, since even if it isn't, they can probably figure out what it is, and the earlier he gets treatment for whatever it is, the better. (I say this because treatment tends to slow the progression of the disease, and so the earlier it starts, the more it extends the period when he'd lucid. I sympathise with you, though, because I saw my grandmother gradually fade away (albeit that wasn't dementia as far as I am aware, just age) and so have some idea of what you must be feeling.

We think some of the issues may be the pharmacy's worth of medication he's on. Two of his meds really don't play well together. His doctor agreed to have him drop one of the prescriptions which has already made a difference.

In other news, we have a higher limit on the Home Improvement Visa than we thought so getting the leak fixed should happen soon.

So things are starting to look up.

Little known "fact": Precisely metered C4 can lift your house long enough to whip a new slab under it. This is the big boy/girl version of yanking the tablecloth out from under the Thanksgiving dinner.

                Fun factoid:
Not-so-presicely metered C4 can also lift your house. Unfortunately, it won't be shaped much like a house when it comes down, and it is not likely to come down in one location...

Re the meds: I've heard of that happening before. Kudos to your doctor for being willing to consider it, and even moreso for being willing to try to FIX it.

Also glad to hear the house repairs might not be as bad as you thought!

And if you're really lucky it will come down on someone wearing ruby slippers... and the local vermin will sing your praises.
