  • The State Flower...

Here in Texas, the state flower is the bluebonnet. For those not "in the know", these are bluebonnets:

Dang...WIMG isn't working to scale it correctly...

They only bloom for about six weeks in the spring...and contrary to popular belief, it's not against the law in Texas to pick them.

Apparently, they're native to Texas, and a couple of surrounding states, and that's it...

Howdy, fellow Texan. It's been ages since I've seen bluebonnets. With this being my sixth summer in Alaska, I tend to miss them.

When I lived in Dallas and worked in Arlington, there were several large fields I drove past either way that were solid blankets of blue in spring. Beautiful sight.

        They're beautiful.

Our state flower is the Oregon Grape.

Ours is goldenrod. Probably there's tons of that takes over every field after the harvest until its plowed again.

I had to look up WI; it's the wood violet. I'm from CA and I definitely know it's the California poppy.

That's actually Pennsylvania's state flower. They bloom every spring, and go into hibernation around December But seriously, our state flower is the mountain laurel.

Figers are vicious I tell ya. They crawl up your leg and steal your belly button lint.

                        I'm a case study.

I always kind of felt that we got screwed in the "state flower" category, because our state flower is the pine cone.

                          The pine cone.

Yes, I well remember the summers looking out over the shimmering fields of pine cones in bloom.

Specifically, it's the "white pine cone & tassel," this pointy thing. So it's not just a pine cone, it's an ugly pine cone.

grumble grumble blueberries...grumble grumble northern azaleas...grumble grumble arrowwood...no, we get the pine cone...

We did a bit better with "tourmaline."
