  • I really need to stay away from the scary stuff on YouTube

So I walk into the office today, on my second day on the job, and prepare to greet the boss.

    Only the boss isn't there.

Um ... but the door was open (the office is at street level, opens right into the small parking lot).

He's not in any of the other small offices in the suite (fellow lawyers sometimes use them as a meeting site).

    He's not in the kitchenette.

Bathroom door is open; he's definitely not in there.

    WTF?!?

At one point I was actually starting to peer around and under desks looking for -- you know -- a corpus ...

Anybody else here ever walk into an unexpectedly empty office and start looking for bodies?

Apparently his car had to go in to the shop so he had to take it there and then get a lift back to work.

But why leave the office COMPLETELY OPEN? For at least FORTY-FIVE MINUTES?

I thought you meant the comments section.

Pixelated, YouTube comments are notoriously horrible. The comments are racist, sexist, obscene, threatening, just plain stupid. They're really, really bad. Thus, scary stuff on YouTube.

          D-OH!!

Thank you, notalwaysright, for the explanation, and sorry, Food Lady, I can't believe I REQUIRED an explanation!

The comments are indeed appalling. I've been staying away from them lately for that very reason.

As I have stated on multiple occasions:

Don't go into the comments section. That way, madness lies.

I used to work for a video rental place (remember those?) and one of the managers was always late/generally irresponsible. I wasn't there for this but heard the story later. Her car was on the fritz and she needed to drop it at the mechanic's, which was directly across the street from the rental shop- a busy street, but even with waiting for lights and such it would have been easy to walk back in 10 or so minutes. Well, she was working with a new guy, a teenager, and said she had to run over the mechanic's and drop her car off and she'd be right back. A few minute after she left the owner called and asked to speak to her. New kid told him what she was doing (which she had NOT cleared with the owner) and she'd be back in a few minutes, he'd tell her to call him when she returned. Owner said, "No. Put me on hold."

ONE HOUR later she waltzes in and was rather startled to learn that the owner was on hold for her.

That's why I rarely read the comments section . . . invariably it descends into an insult-fest and that's when I'll scroll back up and ignore them.
