  • Where do you expect me to swipe it?

I hate it when I deliver a pizza, and when I show up the person hands me a credit card. What do you expect me to do with this? You are supposed to give them the number over the phone when you order the pizza, so I can bring you a slip to sign. I told a woman that today and her reply... "They didnt ask me for it on the phone." I asked if she told them she wanted to pay with her card, she said "They didnt ask me that." Well did you think that maybe you should tell them? What a stupid person. Every time this happens I think of a skit from The Man Show where the Man Show Boy told a stupid woman "Where do you want me to swipe your card, in my ass?"

What are you supposed to do in those situations? Do you have them pay cash or just not give them the pizza?

I also deliver pizzas and I hate it when people do that. Usually only happens at hotels though.

With the prevalence of debit cards and cashlessness, I would think that asking what form of payment the customer is going to use is nearly as important as figuring out what kind of pizza they want.

A lot of places around here have wireless debit/credit card machines that the drivers will bring with them. Maybe she was expecting something like that?

If they did that, I wouldn't have one.

When I order pizza with my debit card, the operator usually tells me to present the card to the delivery person when they get there. That doesn't make me a dumb ass. They probably need to see if the card is correct or maybe to make an impression of it.

Yet another reason why I keep cash upon my person. No cash? No pizza.

Of course not. But if you never told the operator that you were using a debit card, so he never got to run it and give the driver a slip for you to sign, and when the driver showed up you just gave him the card expecting him to do something with it, that makes a person one.

Do tell me that you asked the phone-order takers to please ask what form of payment that customers will be using in the future?

People are profoundly stupid, and we have to cover for them on a regular basis.

I regret to say that I have done this before. Please don't beat me!

The person on the phone didn't ask, I didn't tell them. When the pizza got here, we were in a bit of a conundrum. Fortunately, the pizza guy was awesome! He called my card number in, got an auth, and brought my receipt to sign on his next trip out.

Believe me, he was tipped generously for having to deal with my momentary lapse of intelligence

You could carry a credit card press with you and take an imprint, but that'd take a while. Better than returning with the pizza undelivered, though.
You're not doing me a favor by eating here. I'm doing you a favor by feeding you.

If they don't ask me what form of payment I'll be using, I'll ask if a debit card is okay and we go from there. That works out pretty well.
