  • Merry DUI

Thanks to the PA State Police who answered my call for the drunk driver last night. We spotted him coming home from church last night on the PA Turnpike North East Ext. If you ever read a textbook example of high DUI this was it. I've never seen anything this bad on COPS. in a 70 zone he would almost stop weave from shoulder to center divider. I was driving and had Karin phone it in. In the tunnel he hit 90+ and almost hit the wall and the slight curve coming out the north side. The bad thing is closest trooper was over 10 miles away. Keeping a safe distance after he slowed back down to 40 we followed with flashers to warn people plus the dozens of times he almost hit the center or rail. I was getting mentally preped for an MVA. I do have fire ext and first aid kit in the truck. Thankfully he stayed on the highway past next exit so he would have to pass a waiting trooper and traffic was light. A couple cars skirted by and I wonder if they know that they literary got within 2" of a DUI accident? That car weaving on the dotted line should show you why I'm not passing. We finally caught up to the waiting trooper. 911 said we could hang up and he would watch is see IF he needed to be pulled over. LOL Yea 16th of an mi and no sooner as she hung up, he pulled his moves and the trooper lit him up were he responded by again almost hitting the rail and cars that also passed. I briefly tough he was going to run but did finally pull over.
So we went aways out of the way and took way longer to get home for xmas eve and this guy may be pissed at us. But dude you were going to kill yourself or someone else. You might be facing heavy fines and jail but it's not for murder.

Good on you; if there's one road rule I consider utterly inviolable, it's driving after drinking. Doesn't matter how much, I have never and will never drive on the same day I've drunk.

Quite amazing this fool didn't end his (or someone else's) life!

Not their problem...until the drunk drives into their house, or head-on into someone they care about

              Thank you, Rosco. Very much.

Two of my favorite cousins were killed by a drunk driver. I appreciate your concern, even if your idiot coworkers don't.

Thank you, Rosco. A friend of mine lost his entire first family - wife and two kids - to a drunk driver.

Another thanks ~ I was a victim of a drugged/drunk driving accident. I know I was very lucky, and knowing what I know now, I wish someone would have stopped the driver at the bar before going behind the wheel or during his drive.

Impaired can mean sleep deprived also. It's just hard to enforce. My last totalled-car, received-a-concussion, ended-up-in-the-ER accident was due to being rear-ended by a really tired dude.

Thanks for stopping some family getting that knock on the door or phone call.

My parents were tracked down while camping for their honeymoon by a couple of police officers. A drunk truck driver had crashed head on with the car my uncle and grandfather were in. My uncle had seen the truck swerving on the very straight dark highway so they pulled off to the side of the road. He followed their headlights and crashed straight into them. The arsehole then drove off. They were found by a farmer out early for milking and he only spotted them because the taillights were still glowing.

My uncle died from crush injuries and it was months before my grandfather was able to walk.

None of us kids ever meet him, but none of us drink and drive. I have been known to take keys and all my friends know that I will call the cops if they do drink and drive.

I'm saying this as someone who has driven drunk more often than he should have (i.e., more than ZERO times)--

Thank you for calling that in! The driver was lucky you did, because he eventually would have either hurt or killed himself, or more importantly hurt or killed someone else.

I was also lucky, in that I never hurt anyone, including myself. I did crash my car once, but nobody got hurt--and it was a single-vehicle accident, so I didn't involve anyone else. Thankfully.

I've learned better, hopefully that driver will as well.
