  • Panic, panic, panic ...

I was planning to take my vehicle into the mechanic's this morning when I get a call ... the guys will be around to instal the new water heater between 11 a.m. and noon.

Mechanic got put on hold (luckily he didn't know i was coming ... now I will just call and make an appointment ...) while I frantically tried to clear the necessary path for them to get the damned thing in and down the stairs to the basement.

I can NOT move the fridge. Not even enough to shove it hard up against the wall. If that is an absolute necessity, he is going to have to give me a hand with it when he arrives.

I can't, to be honest, see why I have to. If that thing is on a dolly so wide that it will collide with the fridge, it will never get down the stairs. Hell, it won't get into the kitchen from the front hallway! However, we shall see when he gets here. Going now to take my last "settler shower" (with water heated on the stove) and await their arrival in the mass chaos this has caused.

I am looking forward to an apartment like you wouldn't believe. JUST GET ME OUT OF THIS FARKIN' HOUSE.

... aaaand they came in the back door. And brought the new water heater in by the back door. So I spent a lot of time and effort moving furniture around for no reason ...

Oh well. That's my cardio for the week.

      Ouch!

For future reference, the classic way to get a fridge somewhere is to "walk" it. Tip slightly onto one corner, pivot on that corner, then let it down and tip it onto the new "forward" corner, repeat until your fridge reaches the destination. This still requires some strength, but not nearly as much as trying to shove or drag it across the floor.

Thanks, Mental_Mouse. But in the next couple of months I expect to move into an apartment ... if my fridge needs to be moved, somebody else can do it!

That's something I like about apartments, that and not having to shovel snow.

I'm even going to be happy not to have to do yard work! I had a lot of plans for the garden when I moved into Mom's house ... never got to any of them, except in the most basic way (put in four tomato plants that never produced anything ... my sage plant, on the other hand, has run wild).

The apartment I really want to get has no balcony, but the building does have units with balconies ... for about $40 more per month. If my finances do well, I might look into that in a couple of years ... my 'gardening' will be limited to whatever pots I can fit out there.

The one thing I will miss is any possibility of indoor parking. I spent 15 minutes when I got home tonight shoving things around in the garage to make just enough room for me to get my vehicle in. I have no idea whether it will do any good (garage is neither heated nor even insulated) but it can't do any harm.

Again, the building I really want to get into does offer indoor parking ... for about $10/month more than the outdoor parking.

The way the weather's going, I suspect that will take precedence over a balcony.
