  • Black Panther - what did y'all think? (Possible spoilers)

So the SO and I went to see Black Panther over the weekend for Valentine's Day.

    My thoughts:

    - The visuals were absolutely freaking gorgeous. Especially the bits in Wakanda up on the surface - it was very vibrant, but it had its own natural vibrancy rather than it feeling artificial like Ragnarok.

    - Shuri's lab was very, very cool. It was also nice to see the "scientist" character being someone who actually got to fight as well. I did have to openly groan at the "sneakers" bit though.

    - The acting overall was fairly decent. Andy Serkis was a downright hoot - that man didn't so much chew the scenery as he took downright huge chomps of it.

    - Is it bad that I recognized Forest Whittaker and Andy Serkis before I recognized Martin Freeman? (I actually had to duck to the toilet and look up the cast list, because I saw him on-screen as Ross and I'm like "oh crap, I've seen him from somewhere before...but I can't figure out where." )

Now very much looking forward to Infinity War.

I like that Marvel actually created a good villain for once, i.e. one with proper motivations, even sympathetic ones. The only thing that kept him from being an anti-villain was the fact that he took said motivations and went to the full-on extreme with them.

Like everyone else, I am hyped for Infinity War.

I've had a busy couple of weekends, but based on what I've heard of this movie, it's definitely one I want to see.

My youngest son has seen it and he loved it, he couldn't stop talking about it. With a couple of friends in the hay barn the practiced their Black Panther super hero moves. They risk a lot more when they have a softer surface to land upon. I used to do the same thing way back when except I had Superman (George Reeves.)

Love it when kids do stuff like that - good on them!

One of the schools I did a teaching prac at (Steiner school) actually set up a parkour course for the middle school students - that was their playground. They loved every minute of it. After I saw that, I was so happy to see other schools allowing kids to do similar things (eg climb trees, build cubby houses.)

A former physical terrorist of mine used to take her older kids to gymnastics' classes but now they go to parkour classes. They really like it. My kid and his friends were just playing. They were mostly jumping from hay bale to bale.

Slightly offensive Black Panther joke, hilight if you don't mind being offended!

              So...

There were only two white male stars in the entire Black Panther movie.

              Martin Freeman and Andy Serkis.

              But...

Freeman played Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit movies...

              And Sirkis played Gollum.

So basically, they were the two Tolkien white guys.

My partner shared that joke with me when the trailer first came out. I actually forgot about it until I mentioned that I finally recognised Martin Freeman, at which point my partner told me the joke again
