  • Girl Scouts have got it right

    I just found this page:

    https://www.girlscouts.org/en/raisin...fe-skills.html

Almost makes me wish I had a daughter/younger relative I could sit down with and talk through the page with her.

Another page that was linked at the bottom:

    https://www.girlscouts.org/en/raisin...injustice.html

Is it just me, or are the Girl Scouts quietly trying to raise the next generation of social activists? That's assuming that the local chapters are actually following through on this.

I'm glad that kids are speaking up against injustice and wrongdoing. Sometimes it takes a child pointing out that the Emperor has no clothes on before something is done to correct the situation.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

I also like that it isn't promoting any particular agenda, just trying to teach young people that they can actually make a difference and how they can.

... as opposed to a couple of FB acquaintances of mine, who have time and again shared the ways they would squash their own kids for trying to make any political changes that the parents did not explicitly approve of ...
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged.
One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.
The other, of course, involves orcs." -- John Rogers

I don't know if they are working to make them activists, but it seems to me that they are teaching them and those around them to stand up and do something rather than just stay home hoping someone else will fix things.

Isn't that the definition of an activist? Someone who will make a stand and work to change things?
