  • Thief takes money from cash drawer

I got a call from an outside line requesting a towel be brought up to the room. I leave to deliver the towel and I come back and notice the bills in my cash drawer are missing. Cops are called of course so we can open a police report. Because of another robbery from two years ago, we've implemented policies to keep the amount in the drawer as low as possible. So all in all, the asshole got away with about $230 with nobody injured. While all this was going on, the vending machine guy was working in his truck so he heard the doors open, but didn't get a good look at who.

To my amazement, had the fucker looked five feet to the left, he would have noticed my Switch tucked away. He probably could have doubled his loot if he had taken it.

Any video or is your camera one of those phonies?
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

An outside line, asking to deliver a towel to a hotel room that surely has a hotel phone in it -- I may just have a twisted mind, but I would find that a little suspicious already. "Let's get the cashier away from their station for a while...". Any caller ID on that line?

Yeah, and we got a pretty clear picture of his face. Not anyone we recognize however.

Not meaning to be rude, but the cash drawer didn't lock?

The lock no longer works. It's been broken since before I started.

Would it have cost more that $230 to fix?

That is an excellent point to bring up in the inevitable review.

But... but... that would cost MONEY! *Cue repeats of the shortsighted fixation of costs*

Some time ago, the employees of a day care sent the school aged children off on the bus on a Friday morning. Then they took the little preschoolers into the basement area for story time.

One alert employee heard footsteps and someone or something rummaging through the main floor. She ran up the steps and reached the entryway in time to see the back of a thief running out the back door, across the lawn, into the woods.

I had to have this explained to me: many parents pay for day care in cash, on Fridays. The thief was ransacking the place looking for money.

I imagine they lock the door, now.

The alert employees chose to call the owner of the day care first. She told them to call her friend, who was employed by the county sheriff department, which they did. The owner's buddy then instructed the employees to call the *actual* sheriff's department, to report a crime. For those of you not counting, calling the office where police are dispatched was the third phone call.

That's the dumbest thing I've read on this site for quite some time. It has to be close to rule number one, "lock up your money." Even the grandmas at church bake sales put the cash in a little box with a lock.

How much you want to bet we get an update any day now that says the lock has been fixed? :P

Fun fact; if there was no lock and the money was unattended, insurance may not pay out on it.

I'm sure the insurance report will either say "the drawer was locked" or "the lock was damaged by the thief."

Of course for 230$, there may not even be an insurance report filed ultimately, unless the police report also needs it.

No kidding, if it's like my auto or homeowner's policy, the deductible is more than that.
