  • What Are You Listening To?

This is NOT meant to be a thread for music, per say, but rather for things like podcasts, be they audio-only or also-available-in-video-format.

I figured I'd start this thread so people can share the podcasts they listen to. I'm looking for interesting podcasts to listen to at my new job, as I'm being kept busy enough that I can't always watch videos between calls/tickets.

To start off, I'll occasionally watch/listen to Achievement Hunter's "Off Topic" podcast, which is mostly just them BS'in and talking about random topics for a couple of hours. Some of the humor doesn't translate well to audio-only, as there are sometimes in-person reactions or production-team-having-fun-with-overlays kind of things going on. I don't listen every week, but sometimes it can provide some great amusement, and they'll make AH-related announcements here sometimes, like when they hired Fiona Nova, or address recent topics, like Etika's unfortunate suicide. Link to Podcast playlist on Rooster Teeth's website.

For wrestling fans, I'll plug the Club Kayfabe WrestleTalk podcast. I've been listening to them for a couple of years now, and I'll freely admit to being one of their longest Patreon supporters. Every week, Chris O'Mealy, Glenn Kukan, and Dan Peck talk news in the world of pro wrestling, as well as some other random topics. Every week, there's also a write-in contest called "Points or Consequences," though to participate in it, you need to be a member of their closed Facebook group. Link to Podcast playlist on YouTube. (Only has from #233 or so forward.)

I've recently started listening to the Rusty Quill's The Magnus Archives, a horror podcast presented as the new chief archivist of the Magnus Institute recording written statements as part of his effort to modernize their records. Each ~30-min episode deals with a different strange/supernatural/paranormal experience. As the series progresses, you'll start to notice how some reports tie into others. I'm only 23 episodes in right now, but I'm digging it so far, and a lot of the experiences tie into various primal fears, like isolation, darkness, and your other classic phobias. I've been going through the archives of the One Shot Podcast (Link to One Shot Network website). It's a real-play role playing game podcast, but as the title suggests, it's a series of one-shots. Each set of episodes (usually 3-4 per game) uses a different roleplaying system, often a new or indie system. So it's also a good way to see how each game runs before going out and buying it or backing it on Kickstarter. As an added bonus, there is good diversity among the hosts and guests.
"I look at the stars. It's a clear night and the Milky Way seems so near. That's where I'll be going soon. "We are all star stuff." I suddenly remember Delenn's line from Joe's script. Not a bad prospect. I am not afraid. In the meantime, let me close my eyes and sense the beauty around me. And take that breath under the dark sky full of stars. Breathe in. Breathe out. That's all."

Music: Kyuss' "Welcome to Sky Valley" (lovely textural fuzz rock with simple chord progressions and lots of power chords) from the 90s, and Billie Eilish's "When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go".

      Yes, those are quite different...

Podcast: "The Sarah and Vinnie Secret Show", where one of my local morning FM shows talk about stuff you can't really talk about on the air. And they leave all of the "bad words" in!!
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged.
One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.
The other, of course, involves orcs." -- John Rogers

I'm listening to audiobooks right now. Currently it's Rosemary's Baby narrated by Mia Farrow. Next it's Lolita narrated by Jeremy Irons. After that it's The Days of Anna Madrigal (Tales of the city book series) narrated by Kate Mulgrew. All are excellent.
