  • Question about a tree stand

I have a Christmas tree stand that I no longer need (apartments do not permit live trees), so I'm going to donate it. I plan to give the whole stand a wash as it's dusty.

But it has four triangular spikes that help hold the tree steady and upright and they are coated in rust. Is this a bad thing? Should I scrub as much of the rust off as I can?

Rust does not easily scrub off. Unless you want to do a lot of extra work, just rinse off the dust and donate it as is.

Agreed, pass the buck to the bargain hunter.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

I would be sad if my apartment didn't allow live trees. I hate artificial ones. Are they the types to not allow burning incense and candles too?

Not that I'm aware of, but I've never lived in an apartment that DID permit live trees. Now, I can certainly bring in a live wreath (or three) if I want the lovely smell of fir trees in my apartment ... and I could also no doubt bring in a small potted tree (I've seen them around) if I wanted to do that. But a full-sized tree ... no.

Aside from the basic fire concerns, I think they also have concerns about people disposing of their trees in a timely fashion, and also the showers of needles that would be involved down the hallways on each floor in the process -- especially once the trees have dried out.

I did live in an unusual apartment once (a reconstituted funeral home -- no kidding) and there didn't seem to be an issue with live trees there. Perhaps it helped that 4 out of the 5 units were on the ground floor ...

I did have live trees during the years I lived in my mother's house, and I really enjoyed having them. However, I would miss live trees more if it were not for the fact that my apartment is VERY small, and frankly, I don't know where I'd put one.

I guess I'm lucky cause every apartment I've been in has allowed live trees. Although nowadays I get a shorter table top size rather than a full size tree. And they give clear instructions on where to put them for disposal. They do leave a trail of needles but they always manage to get cleaned up at some point.
