  • One of those days...

I got into work today to find my computer stuck at a Windows Update screen ("Now configuring your computer...")...I didn't think the version we use was still supported.

Checking with FEM reveals that my computer is the only one having this issue. Yay. But orders are still coming through, so the network is okay. I shop the day's first order and come back to...same s(t)uckage. Also field three sick calls (oh goody, it's gonna be one of those days). I know what I'm going to do with the computer, but decide to call the Helldesk anyway just so it's on record with them that they did tell me to hard reboot.

I do so, and...woohoo, it's alive! But...I can't log into the online-ordering server. OK, say I, just give it a few minutes and retry. Nope, no good. So I call the Helldesk again...and there's an automated message "If you are unable to log into the server, please enter your store number and hang up"...OK so it's not just this store for once. I dutifully plug my store info in and hang up. C is in by that time (8:30AM), and asks "So how are we doing?" (S who is on the service desk is glaring a hole into his back)

Me: "The server's down, I called it in. All we can do is wait, orders are dropping and I can shop them but not do anything relating to invoicing yet."
C: "How are we for out-of-stocks?"
I rattle off every item that I had to OOS with subs (or not, if a customer refuses a sub there is literally nothing we can do), and remind him that I will repick the items I have found in the interim once the system comes back.

Kill some time by reorganizing my staged order, shop a second order and decide to soft-reset Windows and try to log in again.

YES, I'm in! By this time (9:40) the first customer will be showing up in 20 minutes. I quickly repick what I could, print the invoices and all's well. 10AM shows up on time and actually pulls around to the front because it's pouring rain. That was nice of you Gives me a tip for "working your butt off in this mess."

Fast forward to 11AM. HUGE order drops, such that I need to split up the pick again. And there's a customer showing up so I have to work off the paper pick list; grab items, come back to the room and then pick using the handheld so I'm around when he shows up. This customer always comes into the store; we think that they're a caretaker for someone and don't want a public facing person who may or may not be vaccinated near the car. I try to have his order ready to go in a cart so I can quickly grab the cooler/freezer items and he's off.

I finally finish the 11AM order around 2PM; I had prep lists for two departments. The deli messed up their prep; luckily it was just a matter of quantity and the manager fixed me up. The bakery completely forgot and the worker left before I could ask her about it; all I could do was sub with the like items we did have (which wasn't much). I didn't even find the clipboard the prep list was on, so who knows what she did with it. Somebody is probably gonna find it tomorrow and prep it then (not that that's a bad thing, I'll gladly buy the cinnamon-chip muffins myself)

3PM pickup and I leave at 3 so I was racing to stage the dry goods and let the other pickup supervisor know what was being picked up and when. And there was a bigger-than-usual order dropping at 4. I hope that one got out okay...

I have a feeling that we're going to be getting 'fallout' for a couple days; it sounded like the entire system went down for an hour or two and orders couldn't be placed so there was a backlog (and customers had more time to add stuff).
