  • Funny Fraud Attempt

To start off this one, let me explain about our province's new photo I.D. cards:

These little gems have all the basic info plus a few new security features. One of which that copying them leaves certain areas unscanned. The most notable to the story is that it, like most others I've seen, is stamped like a credit card is made, but without embossed numbers or a magnetic stripe. (instead it's a dot matrix code) That said, on to the story.

It was a pretty dull night at work (at my new location, this is the norm) so I am decidedly bored. The floor manager goes past me to the back pulling cards out of a wallet, telling me he needs to get a police number. My curiosity fully fueled at this point, I'm wondering if it was a dropped wallet and we needed to turn it over to the police. I don't give it too heavy thought with that theory in mind.

Completing another patrol of my department, the floor manager goes past me again up to the front, saying he usually had a police number in his wallet. That theory blown, I ask him if we caught a thief or what. He shows me this ID card.

This lady took a piece of glossy, stiff cardboard, photocopied the front and back of the ID very badly, glued them together and laminated them together! You could even see the cardboard where the photocopy didn't match up. Everything was horribly off center too. I start laughing my ass of at this, then he shows me the credit card.

Everything, including the 3 digit security code was sanded off (literally, you could see the abrasive circles), and this con-artist reject put her own signature on it.

I'm wondering if we hit paydirt and the ID has her real name and address on it.

Funny, that's exactly the same method my sister used when she was making little business cards for horse-back riding lessons. But that was for a school project. But seriously, that lady needs an extreme brain transplant ASAP. Now all we need to do is to find a brain surgeon and a brain donor....

You can't help that. We're all mad here. Every fucking one of us.
