  • Do you see the irony in what you just asked for?

Well, yesterday was the release date for the new otc weight loss drug, Alli. It's a lower dose version of prescription Xeloda, and it works by blocking the absorption of fat by your small intestine (I imagine you have to follow something like the Ornish diet to avoid super colon blow, but hey, whatever floats your boat).
So, we had hordes of chubby women calling and coming by for the stuff. Yay.

My personal favorite? The woman who came through the DRIVE-THROUGH and asked me to go run out to go get a bottle off the shelf for her. Madame....perhaps if you got a bit more exercise, you wouldn't be in the shape you're in now.
(Note, there was no handicap sticker on her car, and when she did get her fat ass in the store, she appeared less gimpy even than I do on a bad day).
I had a good laugh at her expense after she drove out, though.

I also suggested to the store-ordering guy to put out a displayer of those Tide stain remover pens next to the Alli. We had a good giggle about oversized skid-marked undies...

I saw a woman in a Ford Focus the other day, she was practically steering her car with her boobs and her belly...

I felt SO bad for the shocks and the struts and tires on that poor car.

BTW, they had a special on the new miracle pill on the news Thursday night. Yeah right, let's see how well this one works for everyone.

Alli is just barely effective in clinical trials. Patients who took this drug lost about 1 pound a month. That's hardly any weight loss that all. That's the same amount of weight loss that you could experience simply by eating about a thousand fewer calories a week, which comes down to just a few cans of soda per week. By the way, that weight loss reversed itself as soon as people went off the drug, meaning they gained it right back. Still, the drug is being heralded as a potential blockbuster because so many Americans are desperate to lose weight and it seems that they will do almost anything to accomplish that goal.

My question is, will they tolerate soiled underwear to accomplish it? That's one of the most common side effects of this drug. People actually spotted their clothes with uncontrollable anal discharges. I don't know about you, but to me that's not worth losing a pound a month. I think losing your self respect might be more valuable than that, but I guess that's up to each person to decide. I wonder how this works when dating? Do you wear, like, diapers?

I also suggested to the store-ordering guy to put out a displayer of those Tide stain remover pens next to the Alli. We had a good giggle about oversized skid-marked undies...
It may be funny, but it's probably the best idea anyone has had.

Did anyone see how much this stuff costs so you can lose 1 pound a month? $60.00 for a one month supply!!

      Side effects:

      1. Gas with oily discharge
      2. Oily spotting
      3. Fecal urgency
      4. Oily or fatty stools
      5. Frequent bowel movements

So not only do you get skid marks, you get LOTS of them! Yippee! I'll just drink a few less cans of Pepsi a week. Not only will I lose weight just as quickly, I'll SAVE about the same amount a month as those that bought the stuff.

If that were true, they'd be exercising more and eating less/smaller portions/healthier foods.

I was reading through the thread and basically thinking the same thing everyone else posted. People constantly make excuses as to why they are overweight and are willing to shell out so much for the newest "miracle" pill or surgery. The solution is SIMPLE. Cut back on your calories, keep track of what you are eating and EXERCISE.

My mother is one of those people who follows the latest craze and gets no results, when I try to help her out, she curses at me and she focuses the negativity on me. I used to weigh 200 pounds and now I'm 110, so I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about when I try to give her advice, but all I get is "STFU!" and "I'm not gonna STARVE myself!" You don't have to. You can eat tasty stuff, just do it in moderation, geez.

Oh and the kicker? She won't hesitate to tell me I look chubby in something or that I look like I've gained a few pounds. As I said, I'm 110. I reached that goal over a year ago and have remained so ever since. So yeah, I'm really fat and I'm really gaining weight. I know it's my mom, but negative people like that annoy me.

I notice a lot of heavy women, at least in my area, have the tendency to insult other people to feel better. I was born and raised in the US, where the notions toward food and portions are absolutely HORRENDOUS. It's disgusting.

With the money people spend on those stupid-ass weight loss drugs, they could buy themselves a gym membership and healthier food.

No, people want to pop a pill and plop their ass down on the couch all day and eat shitty food and still lose weight and get a smokin' hot bod, which ain't happening.

I think our Western society is getting too hung up on the "instant gratification" thing. If you want to lose weight, it's going to take some time, and you're going to have to *gasp* WORK for it!

Cinnamaniac, that's terrible that your mother does that to you. Sounds to me like she is jealous of you. A lot of people feel the need to cut others down because they feel bad about themselves.

My mom and I had a conversation the other day about one of the things she did right in raising me (there are many things she did right, but this is one of them). Her mother always made them clear their plates, and to this day, she feels guilty leaving food. She always made sure not to do this to my brother and I, beyond enforcing the "eat your veggies" mentality, and I think it's helped me a lot. I don't feel the need to eat just because it's there. And I've thanked her for this, as her and my father are both overweight but working to get down, and both have related health issues that I don't want to deal with someday.

I run and play soccer a lot so yes a lot of running is involved and I know that I get extremely hungry at times because of this. I get sick and tired of seeing these pills and machines that says you'll get this in whatever amount of time it takes. I do know that if I stop running and playing soccer that I'll become overweight. Besides it isn't worth the oily excrements disposal when it comes to those things.

Wow, cinnamaniac, I can't even picture you at 200 pounds. You look fantastic!

I have my own wait loss plan. It's called "work". What I do is, work over grills and stoves, with no fans, sometimes in the sun, and I lose weight because I can't eat and I sweat to no end. It's working pretty well so far. I've lost 5 pounds since I've started this "work" diet.

Just what we need, another "Miracle Weight Loss Drug". Seriously. Personally, I stepped on the scale back in mid-april and got a shock, I weighed 250, and I am only 5'10". Pretty bad for someone who ran cross country in college not too long ago. So, I cut out Soda, Fast Food (really restaurant food period) and have made it a point to exercise every day. So far I have lost 35LBS in just under 2 months. I really want to get down to 190-200, but I have reached a plateau of sorts it seems at 215. Everyone I know seems to be so amazed by this, I know people who want to have that gastric bypass surgery because all they do is take the "miracle products", but don't try to limit their calories or do any exercise, and then wonder why they don't lose any weight. I even know someone who got that lapro-belt thing I think it is called. Geesh.

I think I put our store's Alli display in a good spot. I stuck the display on the end cap in front of the aisle with all the incontinence stuff. I didn't know the stuff had that side effect when I put the display up. I was just wandering the store at 7:30 am looking for an end cap that I could toss the thing on without moving a lot of stuff out of the way. I might have to ad a clip-strip of the Tide Pens to that end cap when I go in Monday, we just got in some 3 packs of the pens and that would be a great spot for them.

I have a 'miracle weight loss pill' that's doing wonders for me - you want to know what it is?

It's a treatment for the illness that made it difficult for me to exercise.

Yes, some people are sick and gain weight because of it. Yes, I still have various other things that make it more difficult than normal for me to get my body how I'd like it. But even once your medical issues are sorted out, you still need to exercise and eat sensibly!

How much patience I have for the 'I'm fat because of my illness' reaction, depends on the illness. I have a friend who's bedridden and has metabolic problems which can't be treated without making her other problems worse. She gets sympathy. I have another friend who's a diabetic who doesn't eat sensibly enough and doesn't exercise. How much sympathy do I have for that? Ha.

Cinnamaniac: wish me luck. Now that I can exercise (admittedly, with limitations and under a physio's supervision), I hope to get to where you are!
                            (PS: congratulations)

                            3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.

I am tired of seeing those pills. All I do now, is excerise, when I get the chance too, and If I go out, only eat something healthy. I am doing 40-50 push-ups a day, and go up another 10 the next week. I also lift weights, and run in place, for an hour or so. I only drink a couple of sodas a day, and mostly water and milk. It takes time, to lose weight, and I am tired of being fat. My body still has to get used too it. I used to have a 6-pack, now I am trying to get that back
