  • Customer's Car was stolen.

Yesterday, a customer's car was stolen, she was shopping alone with three kids, two under 2 and one about 11 or so. She had parked in one spot and her car dissappeared. She nor security could find it. They looked everywhere, eventually they did find the car. It has been parked on the other side of the parking lot. Apparently someone had taken her car for a joy ride and parked it elsewhere.

    Who did she blame?
I know nothing and I can prove it!

I assume there were obvious signs of a break-in?

Because my first thought was that she forgot where she parked her car, thought it was stolen, and was too embarrassed to admit it when she discovered what had happened.

Have we all become this cynical?

At least they parked it back in the lot they took it from...

I'm sorry? What? Someone stole it, just to park it on the other side of the parking lot? Excuse me if your post's purpose is sarcasm, but you may be a little to trusting if you believe that far-fetched story. Unless, there WAS an obvious, visible attempt to break in to it.

I guess stranger things have happened, but my first inclination is to be skeptical.

I would have thought the same thing, but we had a few situations where this happened. It happened to one of the employee's as well.

That's what she said, and we had a few situations before where this has happened. I think that whoever is doing this is just doing it for the excitment of breaking the law and not getting caught. The vidoe tapes produced nothing. Anyways the one of the points of joy riding is for the thrill of not breaking the law and not having anyone know.

Did she happen to leave the keys in the ignition?

That's nuts. Is this some kind of mental disorder? What normal person does that? Would this new disorder be classified as autokleptomania?

Probably not a disorder, just a stupid kid.

Wouldn't autokleptomania be stealing from yourself?

I don't think so, but you don't have to leave your keys in the ignition, these people know how to start cars without keys.

Why does everything have to have a medical disorder (parents injuring their kids on purposs)(joyriding) why can't they just refer it as criminal behaviour and punish them.?

Because sometimes it's more than a lack of discipline and manners. Sometimes it really is a problem better treated with chemicals.

A friend of my sister's keeps having his car "stolen" by another friend to teach him to stop leaving the keys in the car.

Although, I'm not sure it's similar as you say this keeps happening to different people.
