  • "You are prejudiced against the elderly!"

Now, this happened about a week ago; was somewhat confusing at first. Now, I was sitting at my till during a quiet spot when this old lady, in tears, came up to my till and started shouting a whole lot of garble at me. I couldn't understand what the hell she was going on about at first; her garbled speech included such gems as "You are prejudiced against the elderly!" and "I'm going to tell all my friends not to come here ever again!" and the killer, "No wonder you're losing all your money and customers to *rival supermarket*!"

By this time of course, I'd quietly pressed the supervisor button to summon a supervisor to deal with this poor crazed old lady; one duly arrived and took her outside. Now, I had to serve some customers so I didn't find out what the hell was going on until afterwards, when I found out that the reason she was throwing a temper tantrum was cuz she signed a cheque... and the cashier checked her signature on the cheque against the cheque card.

That's right, you read that clearly. Apparently, cuz we have this policy where we have to compare a signature on a cheque with the one on the back of a cheque card, we're prejudiced against old people and accusing them of stealing cards and forging people's signatures. Confused? Me too.

No, prejudice would be confining her to a nursing home.

Tho at least now we've stopped accepting cheques, she won't suffer this "prejudice" any more. XD

Yes she will, corporate obviously decided on the new policy to discriminate against old people who still like cheques.

I'd like a policy that states every third SC goes into the woodchipper but no one takes up my suggestions, that's just discriminatory against homocidal maniacs.

I can't help but seeing a Dystopia future where SC's simply drop the pretense of coming up with reasonable excuses for complaints, and corporate stops with the pretense of enforcing their policies.

"I want this person fired! I'm having a bad day and I want to take it out on someone!"
"Yes ma'am, they're already being escorted off the premises."

"How dare you stop me at the door! This is discrimination against criminals!"
"I'm very sorry sir, let me help you take that TV out to your car. Or my car, since your girlfriend has already jimmied the lock."

"I'm going to leave my kids here for six hours because I need to get drunk!"
"Very good madam. As you can see all our associates are equipped with goalie pads and are already following your kids around to ensure they don't hurt themselves. Tell your children to feel free to climb, break, or defecate on anything in the store, including our employees. 20% off your next purchase if they can make an employee cry!"

"I HAVE NO SPECIFIC COMPLAINT I JUST WANT TO YELL AND SCREAM!"
"Of course. We already have an employee chained up in the back. Here's your cat 'o nine tails. I'll stop by in a few minutes to see how you're doing. Ring the buzzer if you happen to kill the employee by accident."

              ... Customer service sucks.

I would be surprised if some places had setups like that.

No, you aren't prejudiced against the elderly.

It's like pulling the race card. People who do that are grasping at straws if you will. They are the ones who are racist to think that people are actually doing that because of their race.

Same applies in this situation. This old lady was grasping at straws to justify a reason why your store had the AUDACITY to dare compare signatures and not trust her.

You know what, old people can be theives too. I watched many an old lady on a Sunday morning at the truck stop unload a WHOLE jelly caddy into their monster purse. Don't tell me you're all innocent because you're ever 60.

"Monster purse" XD And you're right; thieves come in all ages and races, therefore we have to apply the security rules to everyone.
