  • Fun With Painters

I have no idea where to put this, they're not technically guests nor are they technically co-workers. They do bring on the suck though. If this is in the wrong area I apologize.

Our owner decided he wanted to paint the hotel a brighter, more welcoming color, he achieves this by hiring the most infuriating painters ever. First off the very first time they paint they screw it up. The owners wanted yellow they paint it white. The painters suddenly disappear for many hours when the owner finally contacts them they demand more money for paint.

They leave for the weekend and our told they need to vacate the room they are in (free mind you). They not only do not move their stuff out they leave all their painting gear in their too including opened cans of paint without a tarp underneath it.

They finally get their act together but now we have to clean around the painters and dodge numerous wet paint obstacle courses as well. Fast forward to today for the last three days they have been informed that they must finish by Friday since the room is blocked. On Friday the painter refuses to vacate siting that his wife and kid are in there. We have no clue when, why, and for how long they had been staying there as well? He acts dismissive to our manger who calls the owner for assistance. After explaining the painters finally move to a smaller unblocked room.

The other housekeeper and then proceed to clean one of the most disgusting rooms ever. There were mashed strawberries on the floor leading to us having to shampoo the carpet. All the dishes were used and not washed. I had to replace strawberry stained pillows and blankets as well as the bed comforter being soaking wet. Even with two housekeepers it took an hour to swamp out.

I mean seriously this room was supplied for the painters to stay in while working not a vacation getaway for your obviously cleaning-challenged family. To top off they haven't done a couple of things the owners asked them to and they are furious.

The owner should charge them for the room for any days that the family was staying in there. If not that then at least charge him for the extra days he is taking on the job. And charge for any extra cleaning that had to be done. Take it right out of the painters pay.

Strawberry stains on the pillows and the bed soaking wet?

      I don't think I want to know.

        That's a good idea.

        Wonder if it'll happen.

Forget that, give them an order to vacate and call the cops. If they can't get their act together and finish the job, then they don't get to stay. I'd also see about charging the main contractor for damages or extra cleaning fees.

i have to agree. cops and lawyers

and i figure... the lawsuit should cover the cleaning expense, as well as the cost of having the rooms painted by another company.
