  • The Mythicial Back room(s)

In my department (bakery) we have one large entrance to the back room from the sales floor(white) to the back room(dark red tile) (wide enough to get a pallet through on load days) when we don't have a load this makes that area a great spot to put racks (sometime warm) of product that we need to put out. Keep in mind when we do this the racks are a few feed into to the back room and a few feet behind the "Employees Only" sign. Customers will wander back and take product off the racks, sometimes product that is baked, but not packaged. When we tell them to step out of the back room more often than not they get a major attitude (like I just tome them to jump in from of a bus) Usually it is why? Well jackass, we have racks that just came out of a 400 F oven, slippery floors (from crumbs) wet floors at night, a back room where we prepare food, knives, etc, etc. I have actually had a old lady complain to the mgr when I told he to stay out of the back room, she was way past the entrance about 10 feet in the back rm. said I was rude. Mgr blew he off when she admitted to begin in the back room. She said she was curious.

Once I had a guy walk into the back room than about 5-10 feet behig the counter and into the freezer. I basically to told him to "get out of the damn freezer NOW" After a few "buts" I escorted him to the sales floor, slammed the freezer door closed, and gave him a employees only sign lecture. The first thing out of his mouth after my lecture about not going in back rooms was "but i wanted to treat you like another human and being so i didn't want to say "hello" from the counter. After a few more "human being" lines from him he asked his question, "do you have any X in stock." after a trip in the freezer I saw we had one left, I told hem we were out of stock. He complains to the manager later and says I was rude. Never mentioning the whole freezer thing. Mgr calls me and say he has a customer mad that I was rude to him. I told the mgr "did he tell you he went in my freezer" Mger doesn't hang up phone and I her him ask the quy that, guy finally admits that, mgr tells him to get lost. Guy writes/calls corp complains mgr and my self were rude never mentions freezer. Corp calls GM, gm asks myself and the mgr involved and checked CCTV tapes. Corp tell him to get lost.

I was expecting corporate to apologise profusley, give him a gift card and say to him you can go into the freezer anytime you like, just make sure you shut the door on him.

When I was working at Office Max. I was helping this one guy, and I needed to check the system for a product. Told him I will be back in about 30 seconds. He follows me there. Scared the hell out of me, since it is posted "Employee's Only". A few people CW's saw him, and told him to get the F**K out. I paged for a manager, who, kicked him out of the store.

When I was at my last job. The store was small, the office was adjacent to the store room. We did not have a back-room. I had this one jackass, keep on insisting that we had which ever Manga in the back room. Told him that we didn't. He then finally went into the office,( he thought it was the back room ) and got told to get out, and he is banned from the store.

I was in the freezer at the time, was not even in there for more than a minute before he barged in. I was pulling cases of bagels, breads, etc. and had these stacked on the floor. He actually had to step over a few to get in. When he came in i threw a case of bagels (they are fully baked just need to thaw or be put in the oven for about 5 min. to warm up) on the floor that was in my hands. He even admitted that he knew he wasn't supposed to be back there but still wanted to treat me like a "fellow human being" the asshole never go near the entrance after that. The GM told me that corp chewed him out about about it.

You know it when you walk into our back room. You go from stainless steel, black and white tile, moodlighting, and jazzy yellow paint to crumbling unadorned bricks, exposed plumbing, broken windows, warped floorboards, and bare flourescent tubes. And yet still . . . ,
You're not doing me a favor by eating here. I'm doing you a favor by feeding you.
