  • Sherlock Holmes...

    Quickie..........

This call doesn't even merit the words being typed out for enjoyment of the board.

Lady called last week to ask if we had any Sherlock Holmes.
I tell her I don't think we do, but I will check.
I ask her if she wanted a book or DVD.
I also ask if she wanted a DVD or a book.
    She says either.
I ask her if she remembers who wrote about Holmes.
She seems to think that I do not know what I am talking about as "Sherlock Holmes is a detective who writes about his own stories".
Also, she "can't believe I didn't know that"
I tell her "no, he is not real"
I also check the author and tell her his name.
She thought that he was a real person, and detective.
LOL....she now knows who wrote his ficticious stories and that we do not have anything to do with Holmes instore.
She is also shocked at these revelations.

    Dumbass.
"If it offends one person, it effects everyone".....me, on the PC world in which we dwell.

Everyone knows Doctor Watson wrote Homes' cases up. Homes was too busy detecting or playing the violin or using cocaine.

An amazing number of people, from around the world, have written to Sherlock Holmes (yes, at 221b Baker Street), asking his advice on a wide number of subjects. I even have a book titled Letters to Sherlock Holmes, containing some of the more memorable letters. It's a great read.

I'm not surprised, the state education in the UK isn't exactly wonderful!

I have heard of people writing into the makers of tv dramas who think they are real.

Sherlock Holmes was the original Dr. Rockso.

Actually, given what was in those snuff boxes at the time, I'd probably take the cocaine. (no, I don't do drugs, but snuff boxes usually contained ashes of people hung on the gallows)

yeah but in their defence *shudder at the thought* medical science was still barbaric, and they thought the bodys of the dead would cure all sorts of crap

Actually, he is. He's the author of a guide to bird-watching whose name the writer of the original 007 books blatantly grabbed because he wanted a dull, stuffy, boring-sounding name for his main cahracter.

Damn. I was going to do a Simpsons quote, about Homer writing to MOVIES, but my computer sucks...preventing me from getting the actual one.

                        Carry on.

Reminds me of an episode of 8 Simple Rules (shut up, I was bored). Paraphrased to the best of my ability.

                          "Anne Frank is real??"
                          "Yes."
                          "What about Bridget Jones?"
                          "No."
                          "But she kept a diary!"
                          "She's not real."

Why would they think the bodies of the dead would cure anything? It didn't keep that person from dying.

That woman is probably the kind of woman who asks who the author of the Diary of Anne Frank is.
It is a terrible thing to see and have no vision.

because if the person died then if you used their body, death wouldnt want it, and sometimes they where killed.
