The sign says 2 for 3 dollars. It does not say 1 for 1.50. If it was 1 for 1.50, the sign would say 1 for 1.50. Oh, Bill's Gas Station does it that way? Hmmm, lets look at the sign outside. Well gee whiz, this is KC's Gas Station. Sorry chief.

I just need to jump in here and say that this sort of discount varies from location to location. At Kroger and Giant Eagle supermarkets (and a majority of the retailers) in OH/PA, 4$/10 rings up each individual item for $2.50. (Thankfully, since some of their 'specials' include 10/$10 Pespi, or 20/$20 cans of soup. Nobody needs THAT much soda/sodium soup) Where as in the NW, most of the local shops do the 'volume discount' instead. (2/$5 OR $3 each) Which threw me off when I first arrived because I was so accustomed not having to purchase then entire quantity to get the discount. So I guess my point is that not every retailer handles this in the same fashion, so don't be too hard on someone for asking for clarification.

I hate when people think they can buy one of the item, especially when it says must buy however many. People should learn to read.

Generally if the sign doesn't specify that you have to buy 2 to get the sale price, I'll assume that you can buy 1 for half the advertised 2-for price. That's usually how it works around me, anyway...Of course, if it says "must buy 2" I will not argue.

Or the ever-popular buy one get one of equal or lesser price free.

No idiot, you cant pick out an $8.00 chicken and a $6.00 chicken and get the $8.00 chicken for free.

I often think that most of the SCs we deal with would stop being sucky had they been given a chance to operate a grocery store, restaurant, WalMart or whatever store and try to turn a profit just for one day. Once they realize that by doing the rediculous things they do or try to do as a customer is taking money out of their pockets, it might stop.

Oh wait, I forgot where I was.

Granted, Meijer tends to run that way--if things are 2 for $3, 1 will be $1.50, but I tend to think that's the exception, not the rule. And I would never take it for granted that someplace will honor that, when the sign *clearly* says 2 for $3, which, to me, means I need to buy the aforementioned 2 items to get the pricing. *shrugs*

We love those 10 for $10 sales! Yes, it seems like that is a lot of cans of soup or cases of soda, or cans of veggies or whatever, but its not like they spoil in a week. It is smart shopping to buy them when they are on sale, if it is something that you like and will use over time. We always buy cases and cases of canned veggies and beans (good chili fixins!) when they are on sale, and I have a stack of about 8 cubes of Pepsi stacked in a back hallway as well. It doesnt mean that I will eat/drink all of it this week. I never pay full price for my beloved Pepsi, and I never run out of it either.
