  • wow...this is an interesting forum...

i was stumbling around before i went to bed tonight and i found this site....my goodness....i've worked in Petrol station as a customer service rep for 4 years....the number of stories that came rushing into my head when i found this site made my head hurt

today was a pretty good sucky customer...

had a line of customers about 4 deep today around lunch time, out of the corner of my eye i see this woman striding across my forecourt...had the filthiest look on her face, and her mouth was flapping at a million miles an hour...couple of customer outside had this kind of "wtf?" look on there face staring at her.

CRASH! goes the front door(the door swings towards a brick pillar, if you hit the door real hard it makes a hell of a noise when it hits the pillar)..."hey..you!...excuse me!" on the top her lungs..."your pumps broken...keeps cutting off..won't give me any fuel...i'm to late to be stuffing around with this shit...i'm going"

storms out the door jumps in her car and goes to take off...so i'm thinking this is interesting, cause according to the console screen, i have 2 sales waiting; 1 of the sales is the next person in the line, so the other sale must be her - and its on the DIESEL pump, and its for $16 (bout 15L give or take - can't get any fuel my ass!)
so i look out the window, at her car which has just managed to start
and i think to myself.....this should be interesting
as she drives away my manager came rushing out to me saying "get her number plate...get her plate!"
and i was like...."nah..she'll be back".

why did i know she was coming back?.....cause she was driving a Toyota camery. do Toyota camery's run on DIESEL?...that would be NO.

she got about 20 foot out our driveway and the engine fully locked on the diesel fuel.
turns out when she started filling the car, she had stuff all fuel left in the tank, so once the car cleared the fuel lines and filters and hit the pretty much straight 16 liters of diesel - full hydraulic lock in the engine.

holy cow was she pissed!. and of course it was totally my fault.
she straight away started yelling and screaming and i just raised my voice(i have a really cool voice that just booms....so when it raises, people listen as i politely explained to her in the most condescending way i possibly could, that every single diesel pump in Australia has a different size nozzle to the regular unleaded pump - and this would explain why "it kept cutting off" as she was trying fill her tank the nozzle DIDN'T FIT. not even close to fitting. to which i explain "so yeah....my guess is its not the pump"
i also explained that she was have to get a tow truck immediately to move the car from where she abandoned it outside our drive way as it was major traffic hazard(and it was FFS!..sitting right on the edge of a major highway..cars were swerving everywhere)
and i explained that since she had technically left the site without paying, she had stolen the fuel and i would now have to call the police, who would not only come down and be really mean to her, and quite possiblly book her for shear stupidity cause of where she left her car, but would also book her for theft as well.
then while your at it, you can find a mechanic to fix your car.....cause its fucked. i am a mechanic. i know.

it was beautiful...i just reeled this great big long speil off to her, didn't let her get a word in edgewise by the time i was done she didn't know wtf to do first....call a towwie, come and pay me, go and move her car, keep abusing me.....the look on her face was like a bird looking at a worm...
so i just yelled at her "GO AND MOVE YOUR FRIGGIN CAR!" and she was like "omg!..." and ran away across the forecourt back to her car...looked like she was crying...

    ..made me feel kinda good...

....i work at a very busy petrol station..the ratio of stupid customers i meet everyday is really....really high...painfully high some days. almost certain i'll be back.
(really sorry if my spelling/grammar is super extra crap today...its been a long day..did 12hour shift..fucking nuts all day...and its my birthday, so i'm excused from spelling school today )

What a GREAT first story!!! WELCOME!!

Not only did she drive off without paying (thus bringing cops into the picture), she screwed up her engine by putting in the wrong gas!

You know that old saying about "Haste makes waste"?

That, right there, is living proof.

          Hey,

Please come back...you really know how to tell a good story

I have pumped gas exactly once in my life (it's against the law in NJ and it's rare I drive far out of state by myself) but even I managed to not put diesel in my car!

I think that is so funny, I have a ford escape and when I go to fill it up I have to be carefull of how much pressure I put on the pump. If I try to go all out it shuts off, so I have to keep it kinda in the middle. My husband hates this and I always pump my own gas because I know how it works.

My friend has the same suv and has the same problem. but I don't grab the diesel pump, I know the differance.

We get a diesel truck in about once a month that someone filled with unleaded. Never pretty.
I know nothing and I can prove it!

Hilarious! We all love a good "Customer gets owned by their own suckiness" story.

You're off to a great start here. Keep them coming!

WOW! I almost did that once when I was a teen. I was paying more attnetion to the lady in the passenger seat of my car than I was which pump I had pulled up to. However, when the nozzle did not fit, I woke up to reality and pulled over to a different pump. No diesel was actully put into my tank (for those who've never looked, Diesel pumps are too large to fit into the fill spout of an unleaded tank).

So Servo_man, what happens when you put regular in a diesel engine, since I seem to recall that a regular pump will fit into a diesel fill spout? I can not recall (I used to work on turbines, they generally don't care what you give them, as long as it atomizes and burns, they are happy)

Just a silly question from a non-mechanic. What exactly does it do to your engine if you put in the wrong fuel?

well i know that about a bucks worth of diesel can clean out some of the gunk in your enginge but since the fuel your runs on isnt leaded or something it cant run on diesel and will cause the engine to flood or lock up or something.

oh thank you so much for that image

My mom put diesel in the car once, but realized it before she started the car, and felt really dumb about it.

And I love this story. Ah, karma came back and reamed her but good.
