  • I'm 'stroppy'.

    Because I sent an older couple to the back of the queue when they pushed in front of some young men who'd been waiting there patiently.
    I said 'I'm sorry, I think there's a queue' and that's stroppy.

    Hell, if they think that's stroppy they've never had teens.

    While I enjoy reading the posts from the English contingent here (I love the English style of cutting someone down verbally), sometimes I don't know what yinz guys are speakin' about n'at.

      Stroppy= Bratty, probably.
      Imagine a 16 year old being told she can't have a new pair of shoes, for the attitude she means.

      It's weird, it's such a common word round here.
      Being stroppy, having a strop...

        An abstraction of the word "Obstreperous"

        http://www.websters-online-dictionar...treperous.html

        Obstreperous
        Adjective

        1. Noisily and stubbornly defiant; "obstreperous boys".

        2. Boisterously and noisily aggressive; "kept up an obstreperous clamor".

          Old people sometimes have a complex wherein they think that everyone is supposed to fall down and serve them, and go out of their way for them, because they're old. I can understand extending a bit more aid to someone who obviously needs it, but there are older folks out there who could work circles around me, and I'm only 24.

          And asking someone to join a queue? Age is irrelevant. A queue is there for a REASON. Pushing in front of someone waiting is downright RUDE, I don't care who or how old you are.

            It's ok, I'd wager people probably understand British slang/terminolgy than Pittsburgh ones.
