  • ...$10,000 in HUNDREDS?

I'm pissed off that I had to get up at 7:00AM after hanging with friends all night, my manager comes in 3 hours late and then complains why I'm 20 minutes late, the registers are all backed up, the cart wells are overflowing, we're understaffed, and I'm taking 150 Asprins to stop the huge headache I have.

Yep, just another wonderful day at the grocery store

    ...or so I thought

This crazy weird 6'5 dude with red hair and wearing a Ron Paul t-shirt walks in and checks something out at U-Scan.

He then went up to the U-Scan cashier.

    Crazy Guy = CG
    Cashier = C

CG: Now, I know you're a responsible person and all.

    C: ...? I'm sorry?

CG: Here, take this and put it to good use *Hands C an envelope and walks quickly out of the store*

The envelope was a bank envelope Containing $10,000 in hundred dollar bills!

C didn't know what to do with it, so he called the manager and explained how some random guy gave him money. They called the cops and the cops counted it and decided they were going to find the guy to try and give it back to him because the man, as I have heard, is kinda crazy in the heard (that is, according to C, who has talked to him before).

I asked him why the hell he ACTUALLY gave the money to the manager, and he said it was because he didn't know if the bills were stolen or counterfeit and he didn't wanna spend 15 years in jail. I guess that's kind of a plausible reason.

So next time someone says to me, "Money isn't handed out on the streets," I can tell them, "Well actually...this one time..."

    Update!

The man walked into the store the other day and we talked with him.

The man said that the police did find him and gave him his money back. We questioned why he gave away $10,000. His response:

"I made an incredible amount of money off of this company's stock. I was giving away the money to the cashier because I wanted to make the world a better place."

Needless to say, the U-Scan cashier is really, really, REALLY pissed off right now.

Yes, people, this is absolute PROOF that it is possible to get rich off of random people in the streets giving you money because they just feel like it.

...I have to admit, if someone handed me that kind of money, I'd be sort of scared. Things like that are a bit too wierd to handle. I'd be worrying that there was some kind of trick.

If I ever win the lottery, I'm going to spend the first week or so hiding under the bed and hyperventilating.

Depending on the laws in that location, that cashier very well could end up with the money. If the police treat it as a lost and found item, (baring no foul play or counterfeit money) then after 30 days the cashier would be able to claim it as their own.

*sigh* Why? Why can't this ever happen to me? However, I would do the same thing. I'd turn it over because it would be just too weird. Then I would pray and pray that it's mine after 30 days.

I have had people give me a dollar or two tip for helping hem load their car, look for a product out back, but is someone gives me 10K for no reason, i would tell the manager. You never know if the guy is going to come back and claim you stole it, or whatever.

So, why didn't he give it to the cops? Also, if the money is in fact stolen, then wouldn't the manager get 15 years in jail cause HIS fingerprints were on the envelope? I'm sorry but if a stranger gave me 10,000 in 100's, i would say no thanks and go on my way. It is not my money and I sure as hell didn't earn it. Not to mention, considering customers like to blame other people and get them fired, this guy could be a theif trying to pin it on another person. Yes, I am that paranoid.

Giving the $$ to the manager was the best thing to do. That would be a CYA moment for certain (and I would hope the manager pulled the store tapes to give them to the cops or Secret Service). I would wonder if the guy robbed a bank to get the cash!

From the OP, I gather the guy walked away before his coworker could even open the envelope to see what was inside.

Money had Karma tied to it . . .

I was in Vegas - found a $20 on the floor right by a chip/ coin purchasing station. (I don't know all the right terms - only 2nd time there)
So I picked it up and attempted to hand it to the gentleman at the counter. He told me I found it and tried to do the right thing I got to keep it. . . no way to know for sure who it actually belonged to.
I was with a friend at the time so I asked if he could give me 2 $10's for the 20 . . .I then handed my friend one of the 10's.
We went to a $5 black jack table . . . on one hand . . .I won and ended up with another 5 (so my 10 is now 15)
We decided to go walk the strip and grab a bite . . . ended up at McDonald's. They had a contest going . . .my fry scratch ticket - worth $5.

So I found a 20 - was told to keep it - split it with the friend I was with - and still ended up with $20

I have to agree that going to the manager in that situation was proper protocall. Unless it is a life or death emergancy - it should be up to managment to call in the proper authorities.

By handing the money in, that was proved to be the case.

Yeah, if someone ever hands you a huge sum of cash for no reason at all, you should call the police. There may be all sorts of things wrong with the money (i.e. involved i some sort of crime). If there's nothing wrong with the money, then you get it. If there's something wrong with the money, then you avoid legal trouble and might end up getting it anyways depending on the local laws and the particular situation.

Imagine getting off the train after work and finding a $15,000 diamond ring in your car.

A Westborough, Mass., man says that’s what happened to him.

It seems the ring was left in his unlocked car by a total stranger, heartbroken over a lost love.

The ring came in a box topped with a white bow. A note with it read: “Merry Christmas. Thank you for leaving your car door unlocked. Instead of stealing your car I gave you a present. Hopefully this will land in the hands of someone you love, for my love is gone now.”

Two weeks ago, one of Cindy Kienow's regular customers left her a $100 tip on a tab that wasn't even half that. This week, he added a couple of zeros.

                              Kienow, a bartender at Applebee's, got a $10,000 tip from the man—for a $26 meal—on Sunday.

"I couldn't move," Kienow said. "I didn't know what to say. He said, `This will buy you something kind of nice, huh?' And I said, `Yeah, it will.'"

Kienow said the man, whom company officials have declined to name, comes in several times a month and eats at the end of the bar. He has always tipped well, she said, usually leaving $15 on a $30 tab.

The dessert at one Indiana restaurant may be rich, but not compared to its server, it turns out.

An Indiana Pizza Hut waitress with dreams of college received a much-needed boost in arriving at that goal: a $10,000 tip.

Jessica Osborne was so overcome by the gift she cried so hard she could barely breathe. When she told a co-worker what had happened she called her a liar.
its nice to know these things happen at times, it gives us faith in humanity. although i am wondering why you are posting this in the sucky customer section of this forum lol. i guess in a way it sucks because you dont know where the money came from, why he gave it to you ect, as mentioned before its best to have the police check it out and if it nothing is wrong with the money and the guy didnt come back for it he would get it in 30 days.
