  • is working in a tire shop really *that dangerous

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21208099/

now this happend this morning so the details are not quite that clear on who was doing the shooting. although i can imagine it is a customer for some reason. if it was one of the employees, i can imagine a new saying comeing out "im gonna go tire shop on your ass"

i work in a tire store, and i got up this morning to get ready for work and the news was on in the back ground, this was the first thing i hear. now consider that yesterday we almost had to call the police on a customer because he was extremely irate because one of his lug nuts had been broken (takeing the tire off, we didnt put the tire on before he got there) it was just one of those things that happens.

i also take in to consideration the state of mind that most customers have when they come in to a shop, usually they do not want to be there in the first place, they are usually there because they really need something done, they are always on the defensive because they all think the auto industry is out to screw them.

i just hope that this does not become the norm every where because that would be a sad day for all of us.

unfortunatly i wont get to see the story unfold because i am leaving soon, i guess i will hear more when i get home tonight, or maybe ill watch the news at work (then again maybe not since the only tv is in the waiting room)

Uh, are you referring to the customer or a piece of hardware? But seriously, I don't think I've ever seen a lug nut break--a stud maybe, but not a nut.

They arent' releasing much in the way of details yet. But this happened in Simi Valley California (About half an hour from me and about the same distance from LA).

Here is the report on it from our local newspapers website

yah your right it was a stud, cross threaded nut (my morning brain gets things mixed up sorry)

it appears that it was a random shooting they have no idea why the store was targeted. my heart goes out to the familys of the victims.

        thanks for the link.

No problem. I do most of my own maintenance, and the "broken nut" had me going But seriously, no worries. As to the shooter, I hope he's caught, and gets what's coming.

he killed him self, so i guess he did get caught so to speak. and we might not know why he did it either

yah for me in the morning my brain does not work well at all, and it makes my dyslexia worse. my boss now knows to only schedule me in the morning because im not very talkitive, grumpy and in general dont like to be around any one. (although he will sometimes schedule me to work in the early morning when he really needs too)

. All victims were employees or customers, he said.

Yea, I wouldn't dare pull anything, not that I would want to, at auto places in ND. I have no doubt in my mind that at least one person at many of the auto shops is armed. ND has been a shall-issue CCW (Concealed Carry Weapon) state for darn near forever. Heck it's legal to carry loaded firearms in your car as long as the chamber is empty. (Sucks for us revolver owners because the whole cylinder is considered the chamber.) With a CCW you can have a round in the chamber. (So I can have my revolver with me in the car. )

People here are generally nice, but you DO NOT STEAL FROM THEM. It is extremely personal and until the cops get there it's the thief's word against the owner as to what happened. Thus the reason why the majority of theft here is smash and grab. Thieves KNOW they do NOT want to be caught by the owner.

My personal bet is that he had some mental issue, wanted to kill himself, and decided he wanted to get his name on the news while he was at it.

I hate how the media sells death and mayhem for ratings. They're the reason everybody thinks violence is increasing when it's at it's lowest for over 50 years. (less than half what it was in 1970)

have you ever seen natural born killers,

the movie is actually about the media glorifying violent criminals.
