I work in a video game store when I'm not working at the college.
My store is slow and has a lot of repeat business, so I rarely get any stories from there. My old store, however, is completely different.
I used to work in one of the highest revenue stores in the company. It is always busy and constantly has something going on. As a result, there's always a sucky customer story coming in from the store. My manager tells me these stores with glee, as they amuse him as well.
About a month ago a lady came in with a used Playstation 3 that she had purchased the day before. She wanted to return it. This isn't good, as we have "All used sales are final" printed on our receipts. So the clerk (J) told her that this couldn't be done. Then she tried to tell J that it was broken. J tried to verify this, but as she didn't want him to hook it up and it was her property, he didn't test it. However, he refused to do a refund, as he couldn't verify that it was broken.
She blew up. She started swearing and screaming in a rather impressive fit of rage. J was told that her brother was a lawyer and she knew the law said we had to take it back and blah blah blah. Then J was told that her nine-year-old son had taken her credit card and bought it without her permission.
That made story number four (I can't remember one of them). J was smelling desperation at this point.
Finally, the woman called the cops. She dialed 911 and had the officers come from the station two blocks away to deal with this mess. Two things about that: the station is two blocks away (as is city hall), and the guys at that store know the cops, as they shop there all the time. IN addition to that, J had every right to call the cops to escort her from the building. Which is actually what happened. An officer asked him if he wanted her to leave. He said yes so they made her go home (or away, at least), after telling her there was nothing they could do.
She left the ps3 on the counter.
So the District Manager and Store Managers get called in about the whole mess. The ps3 goes into a box and gets left in the stockroom, not to get touched on pain of death. She gets phone calls to let her know that we are holding it for her and we would like her to come in and pick up her property.
After a month of this, she comes back in. Does she come to pick up the ps3? No. She's there to return her Wii. Her reasoning? "*Company name* is full of shit and I don't want it to have my money." This time, however, the Store Manager (N) is there. N is unable to process the refund for some reason (it is a legitimate refusal) and she gets set off again. However, this time she is there during an extremely busy Saturday afternoon.
In her tantrum, she:
* does the usual swearing and name calling. N asks her to stop swearing, as small children are present.
* knocks over a pile of games that are a different customers, prompting the second guest to storm back to the counter yelling "No you didn't, bitch!"
* goes through the lawyer nonsense again.
* grabs a strategy guide (the hardback version of the Twilight Princess guide, which is very thick and heavy) and hits N in his forehead with the spine of the book.
She actually hit him over this. N simply balled his fists up, took about 3 steps back and told her to "Get the fuck out of my store."
She ran while he called the cops. They were there in no time, as they are close and friends. Since she had traded there before, they had her name, address, phone number and driver's license number.
Turns out she had 14 warrants out for her arrest, not including a fresh assault and battery.
Good game lady, good game.
