  • Threatening to call corporate cause I blocked him from scamming us

Oh lord I had this one today.

About 9:30 pm.. guy walks in as I'm counting cigarettes. I greet him, and ask what I can do for him.

He tells me he bought a carton of cigarettes "earlier" and had a coupon but left it at home and that the clerk said that he could bring it in later and get the difference back.

I look at coupon. It's legit. Then I ask if he has a reciept. He says he doesn't, he says he left it at home. Fat lotta good that does ya pal.

I ask him what the clerk that told him this looked like. He says "An older black man with a beard". I ask him if there was anything else, like a name perhaps, or something. He finally says "I've been going all day, I dont' remember." I go over and check the schedules for this week.

There are 3 possible people who could've met his criteria.

For the sake of privacy I will be using Initals.

S - About my age, has a foot long blond goatee, and is white.
R - Older gentleman, white mustache, white skin.
H - Older gentleman, no beard, black.

Seeing as H is the only one remotely close, and that he had requested off for today for something. I tell the man "I'm sorry sir, I can't give you anything without any further proof of what you say"

He asks "I need a phone I'm gonna call..." I cut him off somewhat and inform him the phone behind the counter is for staff use only and that our payphone is out of order. He says he's wants a number to complain about this, I point him to the door where there is a sign saying our store is run by such and such company and their phone number, he also asks for my name. Which I oblige, but make sure to say my first and that is all he will get out of me on my name.

He went to his car and spend about 4 minutes, I assume trying to reach corporate to bitch about the clerk who wouldn't give him $4 because of a coupon he couldn't prove he intended to use.

I called my boss after he left, informed her of the details, all she could do was chuckle a little because this guy sounded like he was trying to bluff his way into getting a free $4.

Between the gas, the phone minutes, and the time he wasted, wonder how much he spent in an unsuccessful attempt to scam himself 4 free bucks?
    - They say nothing good happens at 2AM, they're right, I happen at 2AM.
