I work PT at OfficeMax, and most of our customers are pretty ok. We do get the occasional oddball or SC, but rarely anything really worth starting a thread on.
Last night was an exception. One oddball after another.
Last night, just after closing, the three of us were all kind of standing around, waiting for our manager to finish counting the drawers so we could do a final walkthrough of the store and clock out. Well, this woman comes up to the doors and knocks on it, trying to get our attention.
Ok, so my co-worker Tom, goes over there and opens the door, thinking that maybe she had an emergency, or something. Anyway, she tells him she bought a cash register from us earlier in the day, and she wants him to teach her how to run it!
Now before you think she was just a snobby woman, she had a thick Hispanic accent, and her demeanor wasn't at all airy. She looked like she really was sincere. I think this caught Tom by surprise, but he told her no, we were closed and that there should be a manual in the box.
Ok, we laughed about that for a little bit, and then another car drives up to the parking spot right in front of the doors, gets out of his car and locks it, all the while fails to see that the steel gates are pulled down in front of all the giant windows and the front doors. He knocks on the door-right next to the spot where our hours are, no less. We flip for it, and the other girl with us, Pang, goes over there. We didn't hear what he said, so after she closed the doors and gate and came back, she said that he was looking for a snack.
Ok, my first thought was he might be diabetic, but wouldn't the bright, lit signs on the other side of the parking lot that say "Jimmy John's", or "Chipotle", or "Caribou", or "Figaro's Pizza" or the very-well-known (in this area) sports bar & grill "Time Out" be a better choice than OfficeMax? If he was diabetic, I would think he would have said something to that reference, but nope. Just probably some strange old guy.
