  • Listen to me when I talk to you!

Alt. title: Your friend arguing with me will NOT get you your damn refund!

So, had this girl come in today, had two bags with returns to be done. Two receipts. No biggie, they're both on the same card, so I can do both in one return.
I start on the first part, and realize, two items in, that the item in my hand (sealing wax, I think...?) isn't on the receipt she handed me. Nor on the other receipt she had handed me. So, I can return it, but only at the price it rings up in the system, and only for store credit. Alternatively, she could hang on to it, and try to find the receipt it's actually on. Which is what she chose to do. So, I finish the rest of the return, and she starts asking me questions.
Stuff like: "Can you look it up in the system, and find it on the receipt that way?"
A: "Er... no... the only other item on this receipt that is even remotely similar to what I hold in my hands says, "Wed seal stamp", and it is NOT, I repeat, NOT the right bar code, which is how I find items on the receipts, and how I was taught to do it.

    or
Q: "Are you sure it's not this one right here?"
A: "Absolutely. The number on that one is 1234, the one I hold in my hand is 4321."

She walks away after getting her return.

And brings her friend over after finishing checking out through FES S's line.
Her friend starts in on, "Maybe she just rang something else twice?"
A: "... Thank you for the compliment ('She' would be me. It's my number on the receipt), however, there are no other items on the receipt that were duplicated, and the only other thing that might've been so was a wildly different number from the one your friend thinks it's supposed to be on the receipt."
Repeat, for five minutes. Then, friend finally gets it (mostly from my tone of voice) that there's nothing I can do at this point short of store credit, and the original girl didn't want that.
They finally leave. Next customer in my line says, "I understood what they were suggesting."
A: "I did, too, however, it wasn't the case."
    "I call murder on that!"
