  • one I just overheard

Kinda a quicky that happened to one of my coworkers...

show of hands, who here has heard the term "wedding party" used to refer to the group of people going to a wedding? Ok, so most all of you... good.

K- The hero coworker (she can take spanish calls... that's in no way related to this story)
    sw- stupid woman

sw- I'm coming in as part of a wedding
K- ok, and what was the name of the wedding party?
sw- oh no, it's not a party, I'm going in for a wedding.
K- yes, and what name would the wedding party be listed under?
sw- I already told you, it's not a party.
k- ok, whose wedding is it?
sw- it's the sucky-stupid (obviously changed) wedding
k- ok, I see that group, and how many will be staying in the room
... insert standard reservation conversation here
k- ok, and let me verify, I have you staying at (location), arriving on (date) staying 2 nights with the sucky-stupid wedding party, at the rate of (rate), was that correct?
sw- yes, but how many times do I need to tell you it's not a party?!

I hate to see what happens when this lady goes to a restaurant and they call out "stupid, party of 3"
If you wish to find meaning, listen to the music not the song

Maybe she would have liked it better if you had called it a "Wedding Mob"?

Maybe we should disillusion her of the idea of a "sexy party"?

Obviously the SC's never heard the term applied to an individual then, as they'd go nuts over "Were you a party to that conversation?"

.....Though I have a hard time imagining the SC being a party on any occassion.

Aside from the fact that the woman didn't understand the term "wedding party" - aren't weddings like a party anyway? The reception part is definetly a party, at least.

*slice loses her temper when people are stupid and rude* so you are making reservations just for one person, no one else will be joining you, meaning there would be more than on person in you r group attending the function making it a party attending the function? well if you stated that at the begining at the call this woul dbe different, one room for one person because you are part of a party or people right.

I always thought that the "wedding party" referred to the bride, groom, bridesmaids and groomsmen.

I wonder if she's ever been to a "political party."

This may be one of those scenarios where "mob" actually is a better choice of words.

That's what I thought..but either way...and I think that's what the hotel was asking, what "wedding party" is the reservation for...or something like that...so either way, the question and "label" applied.

I see a very small-minded SC. She probably only associates the word "party" with carrying on, drinking, loud music, crazy people...wait, that pretty much sums up every wedding I've ever been too!

                      That's the "Bridal Party".

So I take it you're not celebrating the marriage then. Would you prefer the decorations to be in mourning colors with funeral flowers then?

yeah, I was just thinking, maybe she did not approve of who her relative was marrying and it was a funeral for her
