  • Instant Karma!!!!!(almost)

Two Saturdays ago an old black man(relevant, trust me) came in and wanted a flasher for his pickup. He reeked of booze at 10:45 in the morning. He complained that sometimes the flashers worked, sometimes not. I told him I could sell him the flasher, but if it didn't solve the problem it was his forever, since we accept no returns on electrical parts. After explaining this to him four times since he was deaf as a post, he claimed I wouldn't take it back because he was black. Sure drunky, whatever. The race card has no power here. As he left, I silently wished for him to crash his truck in a drunken stupor.

Guess who was just on the news with a crashed truck and a DUI? If you guessed Paris Hilton, try again. No one was hurt, not even drunky, so I win!

EDIT: THE CONSENSUS SEEMS TO BE THAT I SHOULD HAVE CHASED THIS GUY DOWN AND CALLED THE POLICE ON HIM. I TRIED, I REALLY DID. I COULDN'T FIND HIM OR WHERE HE PARKED, SO I COULDN'T GET ANY VEHICLE INFO OR PLATE NUMBER.

Forgive me if I sound like I am nagging, but if you knew he was taking his part to a vehicle and thought he would most likely be driving in his drunken state, could you have placed a call to your local friendly policeperson and done us other poor folks on the road a favor? I'm glad no one else was hurt, but I just bet people were veering out of the way to avoid a crash.

I would have done just that, except I couldn't find where he was parked. I wasn't able to follow him right away, and I didn't have any info except "97 S10 pickup, old black man". I didn't even know what color it was. Calling it in wouldn't have done much good, I'm afraid.

If you have customers waiting tell them you'll be right back you have to get his vehicle info since he is obviously drunk. They would probably appreciate not having to share the road with him and if they did have a problem with it too bad.

From where I sit, I can't just follow them out the door. I have to take the long way around. I couldn't find him. I did try.

Dude, you guys are getting kind of mean about this.

If he couldn't get the guy's info, he couldn't get the guy's info. JCG couldn't be expected to be the drunk guy's babysitter when he has a job. When you drink and drive, it's your responsibility.

              I say hooray for karma.

Good thing he didn't hurt anybody. It's too bad you weren't able to get the guys info in time. But then again you work in a parts store, not a bar right? So although as a functioning member of society you did bear some responsibility to try and get him off the road, which you did. What about everyone who's path he crossed prior to your, and after? They didn't seem able to do it either.

Only person truly responsible was Drunky.

Come on bros, be nice to the new guy, he tried

Its alright man. Karma does happen sometimes, and at least you tried to do the right thing. Though likely depending on where your from, the police dispatch won't care. I've tried to call in drunks, but they don't really care and say its not really a emergency yet. So i've given up.

The police usually like to take an interest in "suspicious" or "potentially dangerous" activity when THEY feel like going out to look for trouble, but when you call THEM "in the interest of public safety", you'd better tell them someone is on your lawn bleeding to death or getting beaten to death because if they happen to be on their down-time (e.g. sitting in the parking lot of Store 24 having free coffee) they won't give you the time of day and very likely will come and arrest YOU just for shits and giggles.

NEW GUY?!? I've been here awhile now........

You guys are right, the police probably wouldn't have done squat, even if I had a plate and full vehicle description. We can all take solace in the fact that this old fart will most likely never get his license back. Karma.

HA! Don't bet on it sweetie. My ex got pulled over for drunk driving TWICE in the WEEK between Xmas and New Year's, he already had a long drunk driving record, had drank and drove his way through our state's ADAPT program TWICE.....guess what happened?

                        Nothing.

Hell, he was 25 when he got a 14 yr old girl drunk and had sex with her. Think anything happened to him? If you said yes, you'd be wrong.

Cops don't do shit. And he STILL has a license.

Good chance the old drunky might get his license suspended for over a year. But that all depends on the state you live in and if it was a first time offense or not. He could just get added to the suspended license the fines, counseling, probation and DUI classes or at the worst: jail time and/or revoking his license.

I'm not sure how DUI law works, but if you lose your license wouldn't you have to take the written and driven tests again? This guy is over 80 years old, I'm wondering if he could even pass.

If I may suggest, perhaps you can now call up the police and say 'hey, that guy whow as on the news who crashed was drunk earlier the day' or something.

Although if this happened the same day they probably know.
