  • oh the whinning and lying and the twisting

first off I wnat to say I have no ill feelings toward hotel desk clerks. most do a great job at dealing with SC's, corp pukes, and the like but some (a very few) do act like whinny SC. If I seem out of line here I apologize but this one particualr clerk acted like a whinny lying SC.

a little background. when we delivery to a hotel we give the front desk an inscentive card. this card is a "reward" for them possibly recommending our pizza place to their guests. collect 10 cards and they (the front desk) get a free pizza. most of the hotels in our delivery area get these cards but a few do not for various reasons ie the hotel management has not allowed this practice (inhouse eateries preference), no desk clerk on duty after certain times of the night, or in this case the hotel has a pizza place inside (with my company name on it but not part of our franchize group), etc. when I started I was informed of the hotels that did not get the cards and I have informed all of drivers I have trained of this.

I took a delivery last night to a hotel attached to the local casino. Now we can not actually deliver to casino (inside) itself but we can deliver to the offices and the hotel . some of the casino workers wanted pizza but were told we can not deliver to the casino so they opted to have the delivery take place in the hotel lobby. no problem so far

I arrive at the lobby and wait for the workers to show up for their delivery. as I was near the front desk one of the clerks asks if I have one of the pizza cards for them. as I normally do not leave cards at this hotel I tell her I do not have any on me. I explain that I was trained we did not leave cards here because of the inside pizza place. I also tell her that if this is to change her manager needs to talk to our manager and work out whatever deal needs to be made

she takes care of a few guests and and a few minutes later just to make funny conversation I said something to the efffect that I wish we could get the guests here to learn how to tip (the truth from our drivers point of view and yes about 60 - 70% of the time we deliver to this hotel we get stiffed or near stiffed none of us drivers like to deliver there becasue of that and yes it is a running joke/insult when someone get a delivery out there into the boonies).

casino worker shows up then, signs the CC slip and I am on my way. I drive back to the store. when I get there my manager informs me the desk clerk called to complain that
    1. I did not leave a pizza card
    2. I was rude
    3. that the reason we do not leave cards is because the guest stiff all the time

MOD asks a couple other drivers if they leave cards. one says yes the other two (one is a looong time driver) not including me say no. OK procedure and policy disconnect. I and several drivers were told not to leave cards. the one who said yes I did train and I know I told him not to leave cards at this hotel. OK manager needs to clarify policy. no problem

now I may be wrong but I NEVER said we do not leave cards becasue of stiffs. I hate when people (even fellow service type persons) twist words and outright lie almost to my face

You told her, "No," so she had to get back at you. That was the best way she could figure out to do it.

the evil-pepper says to mail the complaint to her boss and for each item state what was really said and that you really dislike people harassing you at work for not getting their way

either that or...if you ever go back and she asks for a card again....give her the complaint form back

some people are just teh suckage

So it looks like her complaint accomplished something after all. The driver who was mistakenly leaving cards for her is going to stop making that mistake.

I like when SCs impose karma on themselves.
The best karma is letting a jerk bash himself senseless on the wall of your polite indifference.

          A self-solving SC ... what a great thing.

I didn't think you were overly critical of hotel workers at all. I've worked front desk and I've also delivered pizza. It's true that some workers (in hotel, video stores, car shops, etc) tip very well, knowing that they are getting a superb discount and wanting to maintain that discount and service. But in my experience, the majority tip very little, if at all. Don't know why it is, perhaps they feel they are entitled to the discount and don't need to be grateful (like any other SCs). Interestingly enough, it didn't matter where you delivered, it only mattered who you delivered two. You could deliver to the same place every night of the week, and your tip would be based on who was working the desk. Same goes for not-as-nice part of town vs. nice hotels/businesses. All depended on who was working.

Long story short, this person was a jerk and won't have to worry about getting the cards ever again.

yup you are right it is a hit and miss as far as the desk clerks tipping. the one good thing is it does not effect my sales since it is discounted all the way so they do not even get charged the delivery charge. most clerks understand about tipping the delivery person (one or two are absolutely FANTASTIC about tipping and they get extra special treatment) but some are chronic stiffers ie since it is free why should they? and yes still no cards for this hotel as far as I know at this point.

the main problem with most (not all) hotels we go to is that they have about the same turnover rate as your average food place (about 200% a year) so we get a lot of new people to "educate". not nice to me hmmmm (yeah I know vindictive but....) sorry do not have any cards on me (bad SC phrase I know) catch ya next time (yeah right)

Man I am a front desk clerk...I wish I had time to call & complain...ya know...for anything. lol Our pizza dilivery people are awesome. All of them are overworked & underpaid. We have a couple companies that do not give cards, to which I have no issue. I have been stiffed by delivery people, but I don't tend to have time to care. lol I figure they can't right then, and I am often right cuz months later they will come in & give me like 5 cards at once saying they owe me. So, karma? I am, sadly & happily, familiar with most of the drivers that work my shift (sad because they have to see me lol). It's nice to see the same face over & over, and I could personally care less about free pizza. To bitch that you aren't getting your free pizza when you don't do a damn thing for the pizza person...lame. Call & complain about the clerk.

I will let "bad attitudes" slide maybe twice but after that.... Yes I will be nice but in a very cold way. and yes hippie I have done the "catch you next time" thing because I trully did not have any cards on me or we were out of them at the store.

the thing with this clerk is that we are NOT supposed to give them cards even though they supposedly recommend us on the side under the radar of their management.
