  • Who can count to 24?

At my store most of our special orders for any department require 24hrs notice. Some require more time. In any case this is posted on signs and on the order forms. You ccan see where this is going.... So around 6:30 PM i get a call from a SC who wants to order a cake, I take the order and when it comes time to get the pickup time the SC request to pick-up a 6AM (the second we open) the next day. Since our cake decorator starts at 7:30 AM, this will not work.

SC: I want to pick up at 6 AM
Me: I'm sorry but that is not possible the earliest we do pickups is 8:15 AM (NOTE: if a customer calls tow days early for a 6 - 8:15 pickup we make the cake the day before)
    SC: can you do 6:30?
Me: Again I;m sorry the earliest we can do is 8:15 AM.
    SC: 6:45?

Why will you not listen to me? I have told you 8:15 two, soon to be three times.

Me: Again, the earliest we can do is 8:15.
SC: Will you have cakes out a 6 AM.
Me: Yes we have our pre-decorated cakes available whenever the store is open. When the dept. is open we can put writing on any cake.
SC: Do you have any pre-decorated cakes that <insert her requirements here>
    Me: I will check.

I check and sadly, we do not.

Me: I'm sorry bu the closet we have are <X, Y, Z>
SC: But you only need 24 hours notice.
Me: Yes we do require 24 hours notice, this is only give us three and a half working hours notice. (my dept closes at 9, and the 1st person arrives at 5 AM to remove all the day old stuff and put out the new muffins, coffee etc for 6:45 or so)
SC; But I Gave you 24 hours notice.
Me: you wanted this for tomorrow, correct?
    SC: Yes.
Me: than that means only 3.5 hours notice.
SC: Your no help. I need a cake for my office tomorrow. I' going to <competitor> they WILL get me a cake when I want it. They know i'm important. *click*

I finish a few tasks and go up to take my break. After my break I stop by the managers office and give them a heads up. While i am in the office they get a call. It is the SC calling to complain. Now they really wanted the cake for 9 AM.

The MOD plays stupid and puts SC on hold to kill a few minutes while they "investigate." since I still had the original order sip in my dept we take a walk to see the original. The MOD talks tells the customer that the original order said 6 AM and repeats the time frame for orders, offers a pre-made cake. The SC gets mad her lie didn't work and hangs up.

Too bad you didn't mention to her that 6pm-6am was 12 hours. Her mind would've been blown.

          You're my new favourite person.

Yesterday I had a customer place a huge(24 eggrolls, 18 entrees, 6 fried rices) order of Chinese food. I told her it would be about 45 minutes. There was a pause, and she said "So I can get it at 6, right?". I look at the clock: it is 5:24. "It's for a funeral! They'll be back here at 6!", she says. I told her we'd do our best, but we couldn't guarentee that much food would be ready by then.
Luckily, the food was ready when they pulled up, but I didn't have a chance to look at the clock... they could've been there at 6:15 for all I know. I can't entirely call this a CS, because they did tip us $5 each. But it was like, geeze, can't tell time much?

:muttering: If only my store did more to enforce the 24 hour advance notice rule.

Sure, for most things it's a matter of the next day (not necessarily the FULL 24 hours), but sometimes it's a matter of a last minute thing.

            Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I should NOT have to be able to make a large vegetable platter and a large fruit platter in 20 minutes.

              Uh, shouldn't that be SELF-important?

                Heh.

Around here, if a customer really absolutely must have an item shipped out the same day and it's after the UPS driver has come and gone, we charge a $100.00 expedite fee. Sometimes the fee is more than the whole rest of the order, but sometimes they really are in an emergency situation and they pay it. The rest just settle for next day air to go out the next day.
