  • The World Exists Beyond What You See

Not super sucky, but still pissed me off.

So this lady comes in. She wants the patio set that's on sale.

Not really a problem, but I have to trek over half the store to find this disjointed set. This takes a lot of time, because I have to look through my entire stockroom, someone else's, and then down to receiving (other end of the store).

Every five/ten minutes (this takes a 1/2 hour), I try to come back and give this lady an update. As in - yes, I've found the chair set, someone's loading it up. I'm working on the table and umbrella as the computer says we have some."

She's pretty nice about it. Turns out, we have everything but the umbrella, so she gets a raincheck.

Umbrella comes in and I call her.

Me: Hello, it's Apathy from Shop-Mart. Your umbrella came in.
Lady: Oh good. I'm glad you called. I was sure they were going to lose my raincheck. The person that helped us seemed like he didn't know what he was doing and kept running away from us while we were in the store. Tall guy with long hair...
    ...
    Is that you?
    Me: Yes.

I kept running away? I'm sorry I had to leave your field of vision to find things that weren't located in your field of vision. She wasn't mad I took a long time, it's that I wasn't standing next to her the whole time.
Excuse me, good sir paladin, can you direct me to your EVIL district?

I just don't get people's mind set that if I can't see what is happening then it must not be happening the right way, therefore the person doing it is an idiot.

I had a manager for a short time that was exactly like that. He stated to one of the other supervisors that if he could not see us he believed we were not working.

Just because you can't see it does not mean it does not exist or that it is not working right. I wonder what these people are like when they have to talk on the phone and all they hear is a voice and they can't see them, does that mean they are stupid and not working?
Am I sad because I am looking forward to the day when the people I will be dealing with will no longer be able to talk back?

Those people obviously lack faith. Which I find... disturbing.

Disturbing enough for me to lose a little more faith in them, at least.

that manager would not last 2 seconds in a place that does deliveries (food or furniture or whatever). hmmm the driver(s) are not within sight and off into that void of the world outside the store.... SOOOOOOO therefore THEY ARE NOT WORKING.
I'm lost without a paddle and headed up SH*T creek.

OP the customer was right. there are no areas of the store you can't take customers. there would certainly not be products in those areas if they did exist. and no, they don't have lockers anywhere for high theft risk things like high priced electronics, or guns, they have them out on a shelf, unlocked, where customers are allowed to follow you to. DUH!

          (note the sarcasm)
