  • Why America has an obesity problem...

SC comes up with a donut in some wax paper and a exasperated look on his face:

    SC: THAT'S RIDICULOUS!
    Me: What sir?
SC: They wouldn't check me out back there...(pointing towards the deli/bakery area).
Me: They don't have a cash register back there.
SC: Well I have to WALK all the way up here to pay for this.

Sorry...we made you exercise. Next time we'll make sure you're completely comfortable while you shovel food in your face.

Around here, if you want to start an hour long debate ask people how far away they had to park. Most will whine for hours if they weren't able to park within five feet of a door. And believe me, in the midwest, it wouldn't kill people to walk the extra hundred or so feet.

They are trying to build a new stadium/arena in our downtown area. And they're saying that there is enough street parking to support it, but everyone is whining because it won't be surrounded by the sea of asphalt like the current one is.

UPDATE: Its been over an hour since the incident and this guy is still walking straight from my desk to the lotto machine. He buys a ticket, wins a little, and throws it right back in the machine. This is about the 10th time he's been to my desk...and he complained about having to walk from the back of the store to pay something...come on...

Maybe if he just didn't get a donut, he didn't have to walk all the way to the deli and back.

I remember a co-worker asked me to drop him off at his gym. I was just going to drop him off at the corner, but he wanted me to drop him off at the front door. I guess walking 40 ft would be too much to walk.

There's a book called "Fat." (I forget who wrote it.) It's an ok book, but there's a scene where this fat guy is going to a gym, and he comments about how all these people, who are coming to this place to exercise, are trying to park as close as possible.

And I'll be glad when they get that damn Lucas (Oil) stadium finished.
Excuse me, good sir paladin, can you direct me to your EVIL district?

i've always loved that about America - you could be trying to park to run a 100 mile race and yet if you park at the back of the parking lot your going to bitch and moan hell i usually default to roadside parking at walmart and make the quarter mile trip to the door its better than having your door ran over by a cart for the 300th time

Wow...that's just sheer laziness. I'm surprised he didn't do something like ride around in an electric scooter.

They're lying. They built two stadiums in Seattle and went cheap on the parking lots. It's not good.

Well, how about the woman who came through my lane with a cart overflowing with literally nothing but junk food (Ho-Ho's, Honey Buns, swiss rolls, cheetos, ice cream, taco chips, candy bars, etc.) and handed me about ten empty wrappers of things her and her companions had already eaten plus a bag of Doritos that was ripped open and half gone. She also handed me a empty container of ham slices that she had eaten from. She was black and obese, which pretty much guarantees that if she doesn't already had diabetes, she will very soon. Oh, and three of her candy bars weren't eligible on her Bridge card (which she finally reluctanctly accepted).

At my store we do have a register at the bakery. It is a pain in the ass because if you are the only one working you have to stop every time someone wants a coffee that they can sip on while they shop, then go up front to pay for the other groceries. Don't get me started on the assholes who think I ma their personal cashier, even when the front end is completely empty.

One day in a 6 hour shift I used one who box of gloves (100 per box). About 90 percent were from stopping to deal with customers who for some reason don't want to pay for their coffee with the rest of their shopping. And management wonders why we hate that thing.

This kind of thing makes me laugh. Nothing was crazier than when I worked at McD's and people would come in and order 2 Big Mac's, supersize fries, fudge sundae....but "oh that soda needs to be diet because I'm diabetic"..... OY!!!

So walking from the bakery to the register was too far. How did he plan to actually get out of the store? Was he going to ask you to put in a door for him right next to the bakery?

I'm one of those weirdos who gets a sense of security parking further away. That way I don't get in a mangled mess with everyone fighting over the closest spots.

Unless it's raining, then I'll park as close as I can....if I can't, I cover my hair and book it.
