  • If I was in charge of hiring...

...I'd hire you and put you in customer service so you'd feel my pain.

This SC calls me on the phone...

SC: Hi, I was wondering if you were hiring.
Me: Personally, I'm not sure. Let me find you a manager.
SC: I don't have time to be put on hold! Tell me if you're hiring!
Me: Well, ma'am, personally, I am not in charge of hiring, but I can tell you I've seen quite a few new people around here recently, so my opinion is that putting in an application now would probably be a pretty good idea.
SC: I don't WANT your OPINION. I WANT TO KNOW!
Me: Then let me get a manager for you.
SC: I DON'T WANT *click for hold*

I called up the office and told the MOD what happened. She couldn't stop laughing and asked me to listen in on the call...

    MOD: Can I help you?
SC: I want to KNOW if you're hiring! That GIRL would not tell me! I TOLD HER NOT TO PUT ME ON HOLD!
MOD: Yes, she was correct to, she does not have hiring information available to her, which is why she put you on hold to transfer you to me. What was your name again?
    SC: *name*
MOD: And what position were you looking for?
    SC: Supervisor or management.
MOD: Well, Ms. *name*, I am sorry, but those positions are not available to entry level. We only promote from within. Normally, people start packing on our front end, then work their way up.
SC: So I'd have to be a BAGGER?
MOD: ...Ma'am, I also recommend to you in the future, when calling a place of employment to inquire about a position not to be so harsh to the employees there, as personally, with your attitude towards our open positions, let alone my employee, I see you do not reflect supervisor or management material, let alone *our company* standards.
    SC: *click*

I want to hug my manager.

Reminds me of a few incidents at the pizza place.

Had a woman fill out an application when she called to inquire about the status, she would say rather abruptly: "Don't you have any jobs yet? When are you going to have anything?" etc

      Guy comes in (I had the feeling he was just filling out applications so he could prove to social services that he was actively looking for work) After he handed in his application the following ensued;

      ME: Thank You.
AP: So when do I start?
ME: Well right now we don't have anything available.
AP: So why did you give me an application?
ME: Applications are put on file for review. If a position becomes available and we feel your application qualifies you for employment we'll contact you for an interview?
AP: And then I get the job?
ME: If you successfully complete the interview and we feel you're right for our company's needs.
      AP (stares blankly)
ME You understand? Filling out an application is just the first step in the process People are welcome to fill out applications regardless of whether we're actively seeking employees.
      AP (stares blankly)
ME: Have you ever applied to work for a company before?
(I kinda felt bad after I said that)
      AP: Uh....
ME: Tell you what. I'll turn this in for you. Good luck!

So he goes on his way, and I look at the application. It was the most sloppy, unreadable, incomplete application I have ever seen. When does he start indeed.

      Sorry for the hijack
      I don't like your attitude!
Yeah? Well you're not EATING my attitude!

I work at night, 10pm-6am. It amazes me that people come in & ask me if we have openings. 1)I am not the hotel Manager, who does the hiring 2)Why on earth would someone come into a hotel late at night asking this question. (Although, my best friend works for the US Post Office, and she said they call their employees purposely all hours of the day to make sure they are reliable...which I don't even know if that makes any sense.)

From now on, I am going to tell them as I hand them an application that it is not wise to come in at this God-forsaken hour and ask for them & see what their response is. I will tell my manager it was a "pre-interview". lol Late evening...sure I will accept that. 10pm+, sometimes 2am? Are you serious?

As for your Manager...no wonder the SC didn't want to be tranferred...they wanted the job! And honestly, if someone really thinks they are management material they go into said place & all of that in person not over the phone. It makes me crack a rib how many horrible employees think management is easy.

Kudos to your Manager for offering actual useful information to the SC. Maybe they won' t be a drag on society anymore...*gulp* let's pray

If I went job searching now I probably would hit the 24 hour places during the night (I am third shift and I'd reserver daylight hours for companies only open during business hours) as I've always thought most places in the service industry have you fill out an app and then get contacted by the company - it's not like a manager is going to interview you right after you fill out the app. Of course, if I was doing this I would only go to places that were advertising as hiring.

When i was managing pubs i had some loverly Job application forms returned. The best i think was the one that was turned in by a scruffy teenager who on his outside interests pertaining to the job was"wimmen"(women) spelt just like that needless to say he did not get the job.

My favorites are the ones that come in during lunch. Line to the door, busy as all get out and they want an application and to speak to a manager. I have someone get their name. When the application comes in I usually do not give them a call. If they are dumb enough to fight through a crowd during lunch rush, then I don't want them.

I also love it when you have a regular that is ALWAYS rude when they come in. Then they find themselves looking for a job. Jeesh if you are that rude and nasty as a customer, what kind of employee will you be.

Why do I get the feeling she(the person calling)just got her pweshis widdle college degree in "business management", and has never held a job in her life?

                      let's see:
                      Acting all high and mighty-check
acting like anything less than management is "beneath her"-check
                      calling instead of coming in-check
                      abusing the staff-check

that usually is expected of the arrogant college graduates-personally I'll take the nice ones.
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

There was this girl at my last job, probably 19 years old or so. In their infinite wisdom, store management promotes her. Of course, she's not old enough to handle this, and the power goes straight to her head. She's all high and mighty, talking about the people "below her," and acting like she's hot shit.
Thankfully, she wasn't my boss, and I dismissed her whenever she talked to me. My boss and I called her "Little Bigwig."
Excuse me, good sir paladin, can you direct me to your EVIL district?
