Kaspersky Issues

    Kaspersky Issues

    Because I work for the city, I got a license code for Kaspersky Anti-virus. I downloaded the newest version (7.0.1.325). During install, it told me I had to uninstall my ZoneAlarm firewall, PC Threatfire, and a few other programs.

    Now I have this supposedly awesome AV program, but no firewall. I browsed thru their forums to see what firewalls were compatible; all I found were the ones not compatible. So I emailed tech support and asked. The reply came back stating there are NO firewalls compatible with KAV, but if I were to upgrade to their Internet Security, I would have a firewall.

    Hmmmm.....

    Anyone have a work-around for this? I don't like being without a firewall. I have tried ZA again, but I had problems. I'm trying Comodo next.

    If that doesn't work, I guess I'll get rid of KAV and go back to what I was using.

    No workaround that I know of. So, I'd have to suggest installing Avast or AVG and your choice of firewall, and ditching a product that demands you upgrade to their higher priced version or hop on the internet without.

      Wow, that takes some doing to prevent a firewall from working.

      Personally, I rather have a damn good firewall than an damn good antivirus. I love my comodo firewall, it's stop quite a few malware from sneaking in. Since I don't download apps to install on my computer, I don't really have to worry too much about trojans.

        Thanks for the replies.

        After tweaking it as best as I good, and lots of research on their forum and Google, I am uninstalling Kaspersky. Not only because of the firewall issue, but also Kaspersky scanned my start up files every time I booted up. So I had my normal start up, then 10 min of KAV scanning my files. Way too long. 15 minutes before I could even surf the web? No thanks.

        KAV may be one of the best out there, but you can't do anything with it. Good thing it was free thru work!

          I guess they stole a page from mcafee. Mcafee anti-virus used to do that back in the DOS days.

            Wow. It's good to know what to avoid in software, should I feel the need to change my AV software.

            I was going to suggest Sunbelt Firewall if you're using XP. I use it on my laptop and if they had it for Vista, I'd be using it there. I currently use Comodo, but it currently has a bug where it continually tries to update and does nothing.

              The old old comodo version did that. However, mine not doing that. It's updated a few times since then.

              I really like Comodo, it's the first firewall since tiny personal firewall for win9x that I liked.
              I've lost my mind ages ago. If you find it, please hide it.

                Yea, I manually installed the latest build and it seems to have cleared that problem up.

                  That's because Sunbelt bought out Comodo.

                  BTW the latest versions of Kaspersky really suck, and not just for incompatibilities with other products. On EVERY machine that has it installed that I came across, they were running as slow as dirt. Removed Kaspersky, they ran like champs.
