I received a Nikon Coolpix camera for Christmas this past year. About two weeks ago I started having issues with it, where when I would go to take a picture it would shut off. I changed the batteries and the problem stopped. Yesterday I went to turn my camera on to view some pictures, and the lens extended but the screen stayed black. I pushed the power button and the lens would not retract. Today I put in two brand new batteries and the lens retracted. I decided to verify that the problem was with the batteries, so I hit the power button and the lens extended but the screen stayed black, although it did flicker a bit. I turned the camera off and tried again. This time the lens extended but retracted a second later on its own. Each time I tried to turn the camera on it did the same thing. I have had the camera for about 6 months and the majority of the time it sits on a shelf above my desk on the plastic holder that it came with. While I do love the camera, this is very frustrating. Any ideas as to what may be going on?

Since this was a gift, I don't have a receipt for it. My parents are checking to see if they have one, but after all this time who knows. It was purchased at Best Buy, I believe.

I'd suggest a dodgy connection somewhere, if you've tried multpile sets of batteries (including I'm assuming a brand new just been bought set) and you're havin power issues then thats the next feasible option.

There may be a return policy through Nikon that you can contact, have a look in your service/imstruction booklet.
A PSA, if I may, as well as another.

Are you using batteries from 99 cent store or Dollar Tree store? I tried using cheap batteries and it ended up doing the same thing.
