  • iTunes help?

I bought 3 songs on iTunes last night. It showed 2 still in progress downloading when the program froze and I had to force it to quit. When I went back in I checked and the 2 songs were not in my library, and my account balance was higher than it had been when I looked at it after buying the songs in the first place. So I tried purchasing them again, and it told me I had already purchased them. Then I got some message about my account balance being out of date, I closed it and reopened it and the balance was back down to reflect the purchases I made.

I went to the Store menu and clicked on Check for Purchases, and it told me all my purchases were downloaded. But they are still not in my library. I haven't gotten the receipt in my email yet (usually it takes a day or two), but they do show up in my Purchase History. So where the heck are they?!

Does anyone know how to get songs that were supposedly purchased and downloaded but aren't showing up in the library?

Have you tried downloading DRM-free songs from Amazon?

I gave up on iTunes because you need an iPod to listen to purchased music without your computer now. They changed the format file and my Zune doesn't recognize it. I did call both Microsoft and Apple support and this is the answer both gave.

I refuse to own Apple-anything anymore. I removed iTunes from my system and I have found other sources. Better sources with more variety/selection.

I may get yelled at for saying this, but...
I just D/L stuff I want from limewire and transfer it over to iTunes, then sync.

I figured out how to report missing songs to customer service, and they told me how to get them. All fixed.

Yeah, iTunes is all ME ME ME, aren't they?

              Well, logically speaking:

              1) Apple products have a tendency to try and install iTunes on anything you plug them into.
              2) EVE from Wall-E is based on Apple's products.
              3) iTunes is an STD.

Yes you will Please do not do this if you have any alternative*. Someone else mentioned Amazon MP3's and I buy from them quite often. Please do not steal your music, and if you MUST download anything, for gawds sake use bittorrent.

LOL. I love that analogy. Personally, I'd categorize it closer to spyware. It even installs other programs for you if you don't keep an eye on it. Isn't that helpful?

I use iTunes due to the fact that I have an iPod. The only reason I bought it is because the radio in my truck plays off of it and I can listen to my audio books without all the jumping through hoops to convert them to MP3...

I'd really like to find a decent music player to replace iTunes on mylaptop. The one I had before iTunes could not handle my entire (20+gig) music collection. It tended to crash randomly while sorting the play list of all of the music contained therein...

*no alternatives = music that my not be available in any other way. I've found out-of-print albums online and downloaded them. If I can ever find them for sale, I will pay for them.

Yeah, because Customers Suck does not condone illegal activity, which that happens to be, in the US.

Also illegal in the UK, where the server is hosted. It's me who gets in trouble if the authorities have a major crackdown.

... and you're Waaaayyyy too pretty to go to jail!

BTW BookstoreEscapee, what did you do to report and regain your songs? We only use iTunes for the things that aren't in Amazon's collection, but there ARE a few, and should it ever happen...

I was under the impression it was only illegal if you were sharing with others, not just D/l ing

No, it's getting a digital copy of music from any source besides a retailer. Because any P2P program (which limewire is), you're getting the music from another person, so you're sharing it. Sharing isn't a one-way thing. You're taking, they're giving.

I can see how people may come to this conclusion. The *IAA's of the world go after the people who upload because they are the easiest to find.

Regardless of what some people may argue, downloading (even if you're somehow not sharing) is still theft.

There are gray areas of file sharing. Television shows for example are aired freely over the air, so many, like myself, don't see it as wrong to download and watch them on our computers, but for things that are sold, you're taking copies and not paying for them, which is what makes it illegal regardless of how you look at it.

Like I said, I'm no saint in this regards, but I won't sugar-coat it or try to dance around the issue.

Call Apple, chances are they'll give you a credit for the songs that didn't download and let you try it again. At least, that's what they did for me.
