  • New SC translation

Hey, I just figured out a translation for an SC phrase.

"I'll call the hotel directly" translates to "I know I screwed up an you caught me, maybe someone there will be stupid enough to do what I want"

here's how I got this translation

    me- everyone's favorite CSR slave
    sc- platinum member
    italics are thoughts

me- reservations, this is smilegeagle speaking, how may I help you.
sc- yes I need to cancel a reservation.
me- and do you have your confirmation number?
    sc- yes it is 6xxxxxxx.
me- for staying at (hotel) checking in on (date) staying 13 nights.
    sc- yes
me- ok, it does look like this was booked on an advance purchase rate, sense it has already been billed I can still cancel it but not refund would be issued.
sc- no, I didn't book a non cancellable reservation.
me- I'm sorry, but on advance purchase reservations do not allow cancellation or refund.
sc- it said nothing about that on the website, all it says is must be booked at least 7 days in advance
uh huh, yeah, like I've never heard that one before... I won't even bother bring up the website and reading it to him, I'll just call him on it
me- wait, so the website didn't say anything about the cancellation fee?
sc- yes, so will you cancel it.
me- no that isn't something that I'm authorized to do, but please hold and I can connect you to guest relations, they really need to hear about this, not only to work something out on your reservation but to fix the website so that it reflects the correct information.
sc- no, that's not necessary, I'll just call the hotel directly.
    *click*

and he said it in a somewhat panicked voice... he knew damned well that the website really did tell him that it couldn't be canceled and he was hoping that he would get someone that didn't know better.

the funny part, is it's a macro hotel, so he'll be transfered right back to us

oh, and a second definition... that I was just reminded of...

"I may book, I just need to check the rate first" translates to "I thought I was calling Motel 6... you however are a decent establishment and I will freak out that you charge rates that are still competitive for your quality but aren't Motel 6 rates and hang up on you"

I may have to add another translation to "checking prices", when closertosane has to do a ring round for prices when we need to book someone out (read I can blag and I have very good phone voice). I hate doing it, and I hate when other hotels do it, though at least it's not part of our job to do it twice a day like some hotels.

I've taken some "I didn't book an ADVP rate" calls, hmmm straight to Res or a manager, they can argue that one with you. Interstingly we've had a few recently who thought they'd booked an ADVP but come through on flex.
