  • Oh, shut up, lady. *language*

    Seriously. Just shut up.

SC: Hi, I'm calling about some charges to my debit card.

Me: Okay, when did you stay here?

SC: I didn't. I was going to, but you said it wasn't authorizing so I left.

Me: *Um...how do you know it was me?...* Sometimes we try to authorize twice before turning a customer away. Did you wait until the second authorization request was declined?

SC: I don't know. But my bank says *hotel* of *small town* took over a hundred dollars.

Me: *sigh* Yes, it was a debit card. When we authorized the amount, it automatically withdrew the money. Because you left, we didn't charge you the amount. That's just how debit cards work.

SC: So you have my money. I want a refund.

Me: No, we don't have it. That's just how debit works. The bank is holding your money.

    SC: For how long?

Me: It can be up to two weeks, unfortunately.

SC: So where do you bank at then?

Me: *knows where we bank at...* I don't know, but it isn't OUR bank that is holding it, it's yours.

SC: Well I want my fucking money back.

Me: Look, we don't have your money. We have a huge sign at the front explaining how debit works.

SC: Okay, well, I am coming tomorrow to get my money.

Me: We are not going to give you money that we didn't take from you in the first place. You'll have to take it up with your bank. Can I get your name so management knows what's going on? I can look up your stay for you to confirm that you were not charged.

SC: No. But I'm going to call my bank and then I'm coming tomorrow to get my money.

Me: You won't get anything. We didn't profit from you in any way, shape or form. We aren't going to pay you for NOT staying with us. Seriously.

SC: Well, I'm coming tomorrow. *click*

Me: ....Fuck off then. I work tomorrow, and you aren't getting a penny.

The thing is, I remember these people. They LIVE IN TOWN. They were mad that their card didn't authorize the FIRST time. They told me to run it again (it was their anniversary or something) and so I did...but they took off. I changed their rate to ZERO and checked them out.

I swear, if management refunds money we never took from them...I'll be PISSED. Especially because of the whole thing in my thread in the Morons in Management forum.

    Grrrr.

Holy hell....what a dumbass. Your thread reminded me of the SC's I dealt with at my first job as a temp CSR for the visa gift cards.....

Don't you just hate it when people don't make even the slightest ATTEMPT to understand the situation?

Too bad for her. I've found there is an explanation for almost everything, if you're willing to listen.

My debit card was not approved by a business a couple weeks ago. Going through my mail, I found a new debit card. Debit and credit card information had been stolen at a supermarket in our area, and as a precaution the bank had sent out new cards.

My bad for not keeping up on my mail

I had the same thing happen to me. Tried to use my card and was told it declined, which I knew was nuts because there was plenty on it. Called the bank, and they had just deactivated it that day, and the letters were coming soon to tell us. Some restaurant's credit card info had been stolen so they issued all new cards.

As for the OP, I've got my easy chair, six pack of local brew , and a big tub of popcorn. This is gonna be good.
