Damn.....that's horrible. You poor poor thing. During my days as a Hostess, the majority of the customers we had were 40s and up with a few younger ones and the families. I would get tons of the older people asking if we did Early Bird Specials. Thankfully my boss (the owner) decided against having it, but regardless we still had cheapskates that would come in from time to time. When we had our summer specials (the 2fers for Maine Lobster, steak, etc.) they were at a cheap price compared to other places and we all know that any place that has some special of any kind for cheap or free is an SC magnet.

You would think this would be something that would be easy to remedy...? Apparently management is clueless.

Why don't people ever understand that things need to be added on for records/for cooks to see what needs to be made? That's rhetorical BTW. They can never just do a little math and see everything is all good before blowing up. If things don't gel, then that's when you should speak up, but not like an ass. I had a friend like this. He would argue to no end about things like this debating semantics (and he was an idiot who's "points" would be half assed). If I tried to interject logic, the wait staffer would just nod in agreement and he'd tell me to shut up then we'd start arguing. He'd tell me to pay for it all then if I was so smart and I'd tell him to f*ck off and tell him I AM smarter. He can talk trash to the waiters all he wanted but not me as far as I was concerned, I'm not the employee that he thinks he can walk over.

After he'd pay and see that it all hashed out, he say "why didn't you just say <insert a slightly different version of what me and the wait staffer had told him>. I'd just curse him out and he'd make like we were making it "difficult." You don't know how many times I've wanted to send his ass to the moon ala Jackie Gleason.

They get angry with you for writing down what their kids want to eat? Jeez. Do they just expect you to put out troughs of chicken fingers and spaghetti and let them have at? No, they expect you to personally memorize what little bratleigh wants to eat. Wow.

Can the receipts be altered to say something like KIDS MEALS WILL BE DEDUCTED FROM TOTAL AT THE REGISTER? Or can you just write that on the bills right near where the kids meals show up?
Clearly these people are reading their bill, so if you circled the kids meals then wrote "discount to be given at register" right beside them maybe that would help.

I might have mentioned this before, but the "kids eat for free" promotion at a local Luly's was taken advantage of. Now these promotions mean "kids eat for free when they order a kids meal." The sign didn't say that. So this guy is arguing with the cashier because his daughter (who is either a really big 10 year old or else is 13) is a kid, and he shouldn't have to pay for her meal, which was an adult size meal. What drove me nuts was the girl was also adding her and was being a snot. I sort of see the customer's point, the sign said "kids eat free" but didn't specify it had to be from t he kids meal. Unfortunately the two were acting like a**holes.
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

Well, I decided to start doing that after I was "promoted" to being a waitress rather than a hostess. It worked for a while...until the SCs would demand why Little Bossy Brat's drink wasn't paid for, or how Bitchy Suzy's grapes wern't part of their meal. I became utterly apathetic after that.

However, I went into work today to discover that management has indeed automatically removed the cost of kids' meals from the customer's check. It now looks something like this:

                    jr spaghetti...$4.59
                    jr soda...$.99

                    jr chicken...$4.69
                    jr. grapes...$.79
                    jr. soda...$.99

                    Bob's Breakfast of Greasy Death...$9.99
                    Lemonade...$2.19

                    Total...$24.23
                    ******- Kids Eat Free...-$9.28

                    TOTAL: $14.95

You would think this solves the problem, right?

                    Wrong.

I still have bitchy SCs asking me why they have to pay so much for their kids when it's supposed to be Kids Eat Free ALL THE TIME NOW!!! I calmly remind them that they have to pay for a drink to subsequently make Jerkface Jimmy's food free. You pay $.99 for a meal that would normally cost almost $5. Stop bitching.

Sorry to soapbox there...I just become very, very sad at the fact that my employer has found a way to punish me so thouroughly.
