Me: our bike shop will deliver them for you


Guest: but there is more than one bike shop on the resort

Me: Yes ma'am

Guest: so which bike shop should I use?

Me: well we work with a bike shop located just off the island

Guest: well what if I want to rent my bikes with another bike shop?

Me: then you would need to call that bike shop directly. I cant place bike orders for any of the other bike shops, just the one we use

Guest: well I am just so confused...I mean I dont get a choice of what bike shop I wanna rent with?

Me: You certainly do but if you dont want to rent with our bike shop, I will need to give you the number to the bike shop you want to rent your bikes from and you can call them and order them

Guest: Oh I am just so confused......I want to rent bikes through you

Me: Ok how many bikes do you want?

Guest: (very snotty tone) dont I need to tell you what bike shop want to order them through?

Me: No ma'am because we only use one bike shop

Guest: well you certainly dont make this very convenient, do you?

Guest: yea well you dont sound very sincere but then you probably just work for minimum wage so why should you be? (apparently they raised minimum wage to $14 an hour)

Me: Ma'am do you want to go ahead and place that bike order?

Guest: No I would like you to give me the advice on who to order my bikes through

Me: well I can give you phone numbers to some of the other shops if you like

Guest: No I would not like.....I want you to tell me the difference between the different bike shops and give me all the possibilities

Me: I really dont know much about the other bike shops

Guest: (huffing and puffing) well isnt it your job to know these things?

Me: No ma'am because again we use one bike shop and I only need to about our bike shop, not any of the others

Guest: so what exactly is it they pay you for? Never mind, just order me four bikes

Me: Ok what sizes?

Guest: I dont know.....I am depending on you to make suggestions and customize the order to my needs but I suppose that is asking too much. I will just call back and talk with someone who knows what they're doing. (click)

She then called back a couple more times and gave my coworkers the same grief. She had one girl in tears because she was squabbling over the tax on the bikes and asked her if she even graduated high school because she cant do basic math.

You know it pisses me THE HELL OFF when ANYONE insults a service worker by implying they don't know what the fuck they're doing and don't earn enough to care.

Given that you haven't said how big the people are, their ages, or provided any other useful information to go on, yes, yes it is.

Seriously lady, it's pretty obvious what you're hunting for: You want the CHEAPEST bike rental place, but you just won't come out and SAY that because you don't want to LOOK cheap. But you also don't want to do the work of calling them all and price comparing.

Here's what you do: Take the prices charged by the most expensive shop, write them on a piece of paper. Then take the prices charged by the least expensive shop, write THAT on a piece of paper. Then take how much you make, personally, per hour. Write that all down.

Then take the piece of paper, and the rest of the ream it came from, and cram it up where you've got that pole stuck, and then suck it up and get your bikes from the hotel's bike rental place.

Oh and by the way, I'm sure any other agent you speak with has gone through the same training so unless they are speaking from personal experience, they're going to give you the exact information.

oh you'd be amazed what hotel workers are expected to know... I am expected to know directions to every address in the city, the rates at all the major attractions and some not so major ones, which bars are the best (2 things, one I don't drink so why should I know, 2 have you forgotten which state your in), how much restaurants cost, where the best local restaurants are (sure if you want to drive down to SoSaLa or Murray or Midvale I'd be happy to tell you about the good local places... otherwise, piss off), and as the night auditor I'm expected to also know how to do maintanence on TVs and Air Conditioners and where we order our cookie dough from (I wish I was making that up... that was actually one of our owners too )

so I can seriously see people being sucky enough to do things like expect the vacation rentals person to just magically know what size bike they want...

and btw, $14 an hour, you suck, I get $9 at the hotel and that was a pay cut from the $10 I got at the call center (so worth it though).
